According to this article the hand holding scene between Raffi and Seven was not in the script and was ad-libbed by the actors.

Huh.
Oh well, it's not that I'm complaining about the development as such... whatever it may turn out to be.

But interesting.

ETA: Regarding the Chakotay idea... Chuckles or not, I really, really hate love triangles. It's usually so soapy, so I hope none of the characters will engage in one!

ETA again: Speaking of characters we'd like to see again, just because we liked them: I think they should explore artificial wormhole research, for strictly scientific and narrative reasons. Asking for a friend.

So they might just be friends. While I am sure Seven is gay or bi it's possible that they have something else in mind in terms of a romantic relationship and Raffi is just going to be a friend because of a shared trauma. Not to mention Raffi maybe even having a motherly relationship with her which would tie into how she sort of missed on that experience with her son. Which of course means a new character. Or old one. I have this idea that the Borg Queen has been pulled out of the collective and replaced by another one so we might could see the Borg queen is like outside of being in the collective. She and Seven already have a history together. Which then would bring Picard into the story as well because he also has a history as well.

Sorry for on-topic. Having far too much time to think about tv shows right now, it just occurred to me they would never have to fabricate a far-fetched reson to get Troi back if they wanted - what with all the counseling needed! I'm not even going to mention Jurati, a full-time job imho, but we have:
- Raffi (addiction, dysfunctional family, unresolved anger)
- Rios (ptsd, depression, survivor's guilt...?)
- Seven (ptsd as xB, from losing Icheb, and the whole revenge murdering schtick she wants to get away from)
- maybe Legolas for abandonment issues
- Picard has come to terms with his guilt trip, so unless he has problems adapting to his synth existence, he's probably fine.
- Oh and Soji: occasional tendencies to erase all organic life!

So yeah, she'd have her hands full!

Obviously, Picard is going to have various Next Generation people come and go. Given Seven of Nine got to have a large recurring role which made the show all the better, do you think we will see anyone else from Voyager or maybe even Deep Space Nine? I don't want people to pop up just because, but who do you feel could fit into the overall tone of Picard? From VOY, I do want to see the Doctor, because of the AI storyline, but I'd also love to see Janeway as a decent Starfleet Admiral who'll actually have Picard's back. Imagine if she popped up now and then, not for any one large role, but as that one Admiral Picard would reach out to for help. Could work, no? As for DS9, hmm... With the way that show ended... Sisko's off with the Prophets (hopefully returned to his family before now), Odo went home, Worf is either home as a Federation Ambassador or back in Starfleet somewhere, the O'Brien family returned to Earth so Miles could teach and raise his family in quiet, so who does that leave available? I think the most obvious choice would be Ezri Dax. They could actually have some fun with this. Say she and Dr. Bashir took leave from Starfleet to go out into the galaxy and have some adventures, only to stumble across Picard and his dramatic crew.

OK, those are my picks. The Doctor, Janway, and Dax. What about you?

For Voyager, the people Seven was close to would make the most sense to me. So that would be... Janeway, the Doctor, Tuvok and the little girl? Maybe just in one or two flashbacks, so we get an idea why and when Seven lost contact.

For my favorite Trek show DS9, most of my favorites would make little sense storywise, or their arc is finished for me, or their actors have passed. I've named a few upthread anyway, like Kira. And almost any excuse would do to see Garak again! O'Brien might ake sense, he lives on Earth and could say hello to Picard when he hears about him on Federation tv or whatever it is called. - Oh, Quark and Morn!
TNG... hmmm, Barclay! And the Troi-Rikers might always pop up again.Guinan of course, and we already know she will turn up.

It's fun to come up with ways to include legacy characters, but ultimately, I just want to tell them a good, well-crafted story and develop their characters. If it fits, include a former character, but don't waste time and potential on catching us up on all f them.

I hold out little hope that anyone from DS9 will appear in Picard, except perhaps in a meangingless, fan-service way. Someone suggested that Michael Chabon asked whether Garak or Bashir would make for good appearances in season 2. I couldn't find a direct reference to the question. Those would be two good choices, but incorporating either character would suggest that the producers of Picard would be willing to explore cynicism, which seems contradictory to the current tone.

What Picard failed to resolve in the finale was the condition of immigrant Romulans. Perhaps that would be one way of incorporating Bashir. I'm rather inclined to hope for some sort of overlap between DS9 and Discovery: a would love a meeting between Michael Burnham and Benny Russell.

Good point. And I kind of agree with the producers at this point. Add to that the not-quite-subtle way they portrayed spies... so yeah, forget Garak on Picard!

I agree. But I would rather like this topic addressed from other angles than secret services. The political angle, and/ or the personal one (we have 3 resident "good" Romulans on the show - 4 if you count Raffi's daughter-in-law).

I would be more interested in them exploring the Romulan immigrants and resolving tension with the Romulan Free State.

Personally, I have cooled off greatly to the return of past characters, but if they explore the Romulan immigrants then perhaps it can work...maybe.

In any good Garak episode, it is our main character who is being taken for a ride: Bashir in The Wire, Odo in Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast, Worf in In Purgatory's Shadow/By Inferno's Light, and Sisko in In the Pale Moonlight. Maybe Garak would take Picard on a similar journey--I bet it would be spectacular--, but I don't think that ST:PIC is set up to focus on one story for an entire episode.

I just began to ask myself: where is O'Brien? Could he be the DS9 character to appear in season 2?

Since Picard is set 20?yrs later maybe they could add Miral shes grown now and could probably be like her mom a total badass and be under the wing of 7. Also maybe her and Elon can totally annoy each other an fall in love. What do you think? Idk.
ps I really don't like the klingons in discovery they look like slightly less spiky herogen in cirque de sole outfits.
