^ No, you don't understand. Unless Kira leaves the military altogether, she will automatically become a Starfleet Captain when Bajor joins. The Bajoran Militia will be absorbed into Starfleet.

^ Actually, yes it is. They explicitly say so in DS9's "Rapture".
They say what will happen with the Bajoran militia. I don't think it would be necessarily in character for her to follow along, and I don't see he operating with a tighter leash like other people of her rank. Simply put, Kira had far more independence than Spock or Riker, and I doubt she would surrender it.

If Kira wanted to retain her post on DS9, she would certainly have to go along with the plan to absorb the militia, as DS9 would be under the sole jurisdiction of Starfleet. Otherwise she would probably have to take a posting on Bajor itself (assuming there is any part of the militia left).

In any case, I don't see Kira refusing a Starfleet posting. She accepted the (honorary?) rank of Commander given her towards the end of the Dominion war, and clearly has no problem working with Starfleet personnel - despite some initial difficulties, of course. ;)

Agreed. In "Rapture" she explicitly stated that she changed her mind about Bajor joining the Federation because of, amongst other things, 'my dealings with Starfleet.' Season 1 Kira would never have accepted a Starfleet commission. Season 7 Kira would (and did - albeit under temporary and extenuating circumstanceS).

I doubt Kira would stay in the Militia (or Starfleet) for a very long time after DS9. She wasn't exactly keen on following orders during the time she was.

Where are the Trill by the way? Is Ezri Dax still Counselor? Any other Trill who could show up? I would prefer a new Trill character - preferably a male character.

I disagree. She seemed content enough both following and giving orders. Her first meeting with Sisko was tense but after that she grew to respect him. (And not just because he's the Emissary....)

Even in the novels where Bajor does join the Federation, the Bajoran Militia still exists as a separate organization. Colonel Cenn Desca is from the Militia, for example.

There may be a detachment of the Militia left on Bajor (perhaps also sending a liaison to DS9, as Cenn is), but if Kira keeps her post on the station, it will surely be a Starfleet posting.

And as I said, I don't see Kira staying planetside. If she wants to stay on as commander of DS9, she'll accept a Starfleet commission.
