Where was the sequel?

I think I've got a pretty good idea for Galaxy Quest II. The 1st movie ended with the old cast returning for a new version of the TV show. As the sequel begins, a brash, dim-witted actor/producer (think Kevin Sorbo on Andromeda) takes over the series and writes out most of the original cast in favor of younger, "hipper" actors. This then causes a violent youth revolt on the alien planet where they think that the show is a documentary. Both the old & new casts are drafted to lead their respective sides in the civil war.

I like the notion of Galaxy Quest: The Next Generation  With an obnoxious bald Frenchman replacing Captain Tagger. :techman:

however, the hole there is that planet ain't there anymore.

The Rocketeer, the film that probably landed Joe Johnston his current Cap directing gig. I was so hyped from this film and badly wanted a sequel to see Cliff Secord go up against an evil Nazis version of the Rocketeer, but it wasn't to be.

Exactly what I was going to add.

You never know, some of these could still happen. Who would have thought a true Tron sequel with members of the original cast would be made this many years later?

A Last Starfighter sequel could indeed be fun, but only if it is a sequel and not a remake/reboot. Just have the Alex actor play a mentor role to a new pilot if necessary.

I think of all the examples this would be best for the "Tron Treatment". Meaning a true sequel and not a reboot. Disney realized that more was to be gained by building on what the original film created. Also probably that the first was not that iconic. So it would be harder to market and build hype around recast versions of the characters. Also the fans are not as invested in a central cast of characters. So its much easier to shift the focus to newer characters than I think its going to be with Ghostbusters, for example.

Also with this approach they have an instant franchise, creating larger sales for the DVD of the first film between now and the release of the sequel.

Speed Racer..

I know, the movie tanked and is considered bad...but my son loved it, and I thought it was okay too....and looks really good on my DLP screen !!!(106 inch wide)

The Incredibles, where the hell is a sequel for this?
I personally have no wish to see prepubescent children being shot at with automatic weapons again, and would thus be quite happy to never see a sequel.

So you won't be going to see 'Kick Ass' then?
Well, it depends on the intended audience as well as the age of the characters. If 'Kick Ass' is intended to be dirty fun for adults only, that's one thing. But kids of all ages were exposed to 'The Incredibles'.

By the way, another vote for a Galaxy Quest sequel - The Search for Grabthar's Hammer!!
Eh, no thanks. ;)

Here are some of the movies I would love to see sequels to...and I know I may get some flack for some of these.

The Incredibles
Galaxy Quest
Godzilla (American version...heck I'll take a new Japanese version while I'm at it)
Cloverfield
Independence Day

Nothing wrong with this list...except for american GODZILLA...I'd like to see sequels to the rest though!!

I think I am one of the rare people who liked that movie. But I do see it as being Godzilla in name only. Even many of the Japanese Godzilla movies are a bit cheesy but they're still fun.

What I would like to see is a remake of the original 1954 Japanese version of Godzilla that was serious and gritty and set in post World War II Japan with updated modern special FX.

Neither of these were science fiction movies, but I was always amazed that there were never sequels to the Mel Gibson Maverick movie or the Samuel L. Jackson Shaft movie.

I loved the Richard Donner/Mel Gibson version of Maverick. I saw that on my 19th birthday and it was a happy birthday indeed! :) The Sam Jackson version of Shaft was okay. Geoffrey Rush was wonderful in it. He's a wonderful actor. Christian Bale gave a "performance" of Shatnerian proportions that gives all new meaning to the term canned ham. :D :D :D

I'd love to see Norton's Hulk return at some point...

It could also be cool to see a Breakfast Club sequel, but it'd have to be really great to even be at all tolerable. Richard Linklater might be able to do it, as his Before Sunset improved upon the fantastic Before Sunrise, but apart from him, options are few.

I'd also love to see a "young Bartlet" movie/miniseries/series featuring the guy who played The West Wing's Jed Bartlet in "Two Cathedrals". Sorkin could write him a story for whatever age the guy is now, have it be an awesome little period piece.

Uhhh... don't you mean Jeffrey Wright? :p

Emilio Estevez also appeared as Bartlet. :)

A nonspeaking tv-in-tv cameo barely counts. ;)
