A few thoughts on where things go from here:

I know it’s still an open question whether “Legacy” will happen, but I don’t think Paramount allows the mid-credits scene teasing Jack and Q if they weren’t leaning in the direction of doing more with these characters. They could have easily either not included it or just used that time to advertise the SNW teaser.

My guess/hope is that the Enterprise-G will be drastically changed by the next time we see her if they do go ahead with “Legacy.” I’m thinking that they’ll fast forward some years down the road, Jack will be a Lieutenant, and maybe the Enterprise will have undergone another refit (e.g, my personal hope is that they would attempt to make it more like a somewhat smaller 25th century Galaxy Class).

I would also hope that any potential show will follow the Strange New Worlds format; episodic stories with maybe a light, underlying overarching bigger picture story that’s touched on each episode.

From interviews, Matalas has said that it would be interesting to deal with the consequences of this incident and compared it to “The Snap” in the MCU. That both Starfleet and Earth would probably be going through a period of reassessment after the losses and the affect on the younger generation.

Even though, we don’t get any indication of it, but I would have to guess that Jack would face the same backlash and feelings of being ostracized by many that Picard has endured since being assimilated and partially blamed for the Borg invasion. And since we know from season 1, there was a bigotry against xBs, there’s the potential for that to now extend to an entire generation of Starfleet.

I got a feeling that there will be a Legacy series, or something of the sort. Personally, I would rather it be set on the Enterprise-H now, with a new design. If there's going to be a new series, with Trek going forward, there should be a different, distinct hero ship the way I see it. Keep Seven as captain. Get Jack and Raffi off the ship. (Doesn't mean I want them excised from the series, just that I don't think Raffi should be serving under Seven and Starfleet feels like an ill-fit for Jack). The ingredients are there with a lot of the background Titan crew to just expand on them, especially Sidney LaForge. In lieu of not having Shaw, the first officer should be someone pricklier and have more of a divergent point of view than I suspect Raffi would have, for the sake of drama.

ST: Picard's shocking lack of world building throughout its run-including even the much-improved last season-opens the door for a lot of storytelling. We don't know what happened to the Klingons, Ferengi, Bajorans, Cardassians after the Dominion War. What's the deal with the Romulans and Remans? Or what's going with the synths, xBs, or holograms (a la Voyager's The Doctor)? Not to mention the Son'a, Gorn, or Tholians, among others. We have yet to see the Tzenkethi in live action, if they need a "new" enemy to fight. And Season 1 did mention the Kzinti (and we've gotten a crewmate aboard the Cerritos, so that's another avenue to explore). And that's just not even considering whatever new species, new planets, Seven and her crew will explore. There're so many legacy characters we don't know the fates of, just across Berman Trek, and it would be nice for a fuller Voyager reunion if nothing else in a Seven-led Legacy series.

Another way they could go is to just start fresh with a brand-new crew and captain, but I can't see them doing that, not after how this season built up to Seven becoming captain. She's a popular character, and Jeri Ryan is a very good actress, it wouldn't make much sense to not keep her in the captain's chair if they do a 25th century-set series. Further, with all the gushing about PIC Season 3, and the effective use of nostalgia, I could see Paramount wanting to keep that going, and a Seven-led series would be the easiest way to do that.

The fact they changed the name of the Titan to Enterprise, probably means we won't be seeing it for a while. I can't imagine Paramount would have two shows running with an Enterprise as the hero ship.

They definitely "shot themselves in the foot" on that one.

They could retroactively declare it was a temporary rechristening in honor of the crews that saved the Federation while the losses of Starfleet are replenished; Enterprise-G is recommissioned as the Titan a few years later when the newly built Enterprise-H is rolled out.

And i am pretty sure they filmed some scenes to underline the fact, that most of the senior personal got killed during the Borg attack. It was either CBS or Kurtzman who didn’t want Matalas to show these consequences as canon.

The fandom has to become uber crazy now, we can only save Matalas Trek by rejecting everything else. Personally I’ve now decided to not pay for Star Trek anymore, i will cancel all my relevant streaming accounts until CBS decides to continue the 25th century timeline with Matalas at the helm ofc.

Great, which means the alternate timeline in which the ENT-J appeared in the 26th century has 0 merit, so they can keep releasing new Enterprise every decade or so until they run out of the alphabet....

I know this is a tradition within the series which goes back to The Voyage Home (and even there it's not exactly canon that the Yorktown was renamed the Enterprise-A) but I really don't like the idea of renaming ships and giving suffix designations to ships that are either rebuilt or cannibalized (like the Discovery-A and Titan-A).

For one thing, in naval tradition, it's bad luck to rename a ship. Moreover, I just think it makes more sense narratively to give them a new ship with a fresh history that can build its own legacy. That's why I hope they do a severely altered version of the Enterprise-G if we see it again to differentiate it totally from the Titan-A.

If there is a Legacy series, question what happens to Mura, Esmar and Ohk given they are key crew members.

Not sure if they would stay given they’d effectively have been actors hired for co-star roles suddenly getting lead cast roles? Yes there was O’Brien years back but that was five and a half years of slowly being built up into a main character.

I'd love to see a series continuation of what was teased at the end of Picard. Hopefully they do it and hopefully Terry Matalas would be involved and hopefully the studio won't interfere. The success of Picard was them allowing Matalas to do what he wanted. If the show is made they should give it a slightly bigger budget so it's not all bottle shows. It would be great if Todd Stashwick came back also in some capacity. He himself has hinted that those would be talks for another time.

Blast it. I hadn't thought of that but you're right. I couldn't see them allowing that until after Strange New Worlds finished and the earliest that might happen is season 3.

My guess is that some of those actors are recast. That's why I think that if they do a Legacy series there will be a time jump (maybe 2 or 3 years into Seven's command, which will probably mirror the amount of time to get the series to air if it happens). That way you can probably have Jack promoted to Lt., shift out actors, and introduce new characters.

If anything, Paramount will focus on the marketability, profitability and nostalgia bait that the name Enterprise brings with it. Also, I could see them using that to their advantage. If they're doing a Lower Decks-Strange New Worlds crossover, I could see them being up for two Enterprises meeting because of time/Q weirdness.

Not saying it couldn't happen. I just wouldn't expect it anytime soon. Not until SNW has finished its run, which hopefully isn't for awhile.

One also has to consider studio space. Any future series will be filmed in Toronto. Between SNW, SF Academy, and the TV movies, I'm genuinely not sure of the available studio space.
