I've been weighing up developing a Star Trek/Stargate crossover fanfic, and I figured Atlantis was the most obvious way of doing it. Starfleet officers find a gate, buried in Antartica, and a small team ends on Atlantis, much like in SGA. From there, they encounter the Wraith, have adventures, etc.
I'd set this shortly after Voyager returns home, so in essence I'd have a rather full roster of characters to choose from to form an Atlantis Expedition. I like the idea of Captain Elizabeth Shelby leading the team, and I wondered about having Seven of Nine as her second-in-command, sort of kickstarting her Starfleet career.
I wanted to have say, Doctor Bashir go along, and Ezri too, for their experience (Bashir's status as a genetically engineered human might be useful and the Dax symbiote would certainly have wisdom). It did occur to me that apart from Ezri, at this stage I had a mostly human crew, which wouldn't work for me in a Star Trek setting.
Maybe Vorik as the chief engineering/operations officer, considering his own experience on Voyager? Perhaps a new character to serve as chief of security, maybe say, a Tellarite or an Andorian, and then a bunch of other new characters to serve as engineering staff, security personnel, and scientists. It would not be worthwhile growing too attached to the new characters!
I don't know how I'd find the time to actually write such a story, since I am knee-deep in stories I aim to publish, but I can't shake the idea from my head.
