Where Did That Come From? (Scott/Chloe Relationship)

Frontier

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I've watched every episode thus far.

Where, exactly, did the Lt. Scott/Chloe Armstrong relationship come from?

Did I miss some vital scene somehow?

More importantly, why oh why did they have to go that route?

I mean, gods forbid the everyman math-boy geek genius have a shot in hell with the hot chick, right? Noooo, we can't have that. The strapping young Lieutenant who in the pilot was boning some other military chick, he's got to get the girl. That's the cliche, right?

The fact that they even included a character like Eli gave me such hope. The fact they didn't make him a total puss idiot gave me even more hope. Thus far, he's been written with the right balance of things I think. He's coping better than most civilians, it seems, but he's also not a trained soldier, so he's not perfect either.

Last week they make it pretty obvious he's developing a crush on Chloe, and then... randomly... they have her screwing Lt. Scott?! :wtf:

They couldn't have just left things open for a season? They had to pair up two of the hot people right away, right?

It seemed to me as though they started bonding at the Air part III, so what happened in this ep. wasn't out the blue for me.

Initially I had Frontier's reaction too; but then I got to thinking about, and I remembered the brief bit of set up in the final hour of "Air" with Scott trying to comfort Chloe over the loss of her father. I still find it a little unbelievable that she would literally jump from that into the sack, but at least there was an attempt at set up.

Why is it unbelievable. She is not a viewer watching the newest installment of a 15 year franchise, thus knowing it is not about to be cancelled in the fifth hour. She is about to fly to her death with a one in four chance of being selected in a lottery for a chance of escape. Partially because Scott is more sexually aggressive then Eli, the Last Starfighter, she ended up with him.

Why is it unbelievable.

I haven't ever been in that kind of life or death situation, but the "screw like bunnies" reaction isn't the first that pops to my mind. But if that's the character they want to create for Chloe, then I suppose I should change my response to one of disappointment.

To put it another way, the scenario didn't make me sit up and say, "Man, finally some realism on Stargate!" Instead, I felt it was gratuitous and forced.

Oh ffs, I considered the bonding at the end of Air part 3 to be that of developing friends.

Another imature relationship beckons.

The writers' asses, clearly.

I was like "What the fuck?! Did I miss something?!"

It was horrible, I hate when people sleep/flirt with one person one week and a completely different one the next.

I'm sure that a lot of people would be thinking about having sex one last time and might even go through with it if they could, upon finding out they had less than a day to live. I wasn't surprised that they did it. I was surprised that more people didn't. Or maybe they did and we didn't see it.

They're not in a relationship. Not really. They may have made some sort of connection, but at the same time, he likes getting sex wherever he can and she's vulnerable and confused. Top that off with her thinking she's going to die and you have the two of them getting it on.

Frontier lets be honest here. What chances does a fat jokey guy have? I say that with being a slightly overweight (slightly) joker.

I also think it was "ok last chance before we die" kind of sex.

Ding ding ding.

That didn't make it any less uncomfortable when Cordelia and Connor did it.

Okay, so maybe it was a bit less uncomfortable than that. Still, the first time we saw Chloe in the Hammond's mess hall, the first thought that crossed my mind was "Okay, who's she here to screw?"

I've spent the episodes since hoping they'd go somewhere more interesting with her. But no; first impression was correct. This development lessens both Chloe and Scott as characters in my eyes.

The line about feeling so close to someone was :rolleyes::rolleyes: AWFUL. Also Scott the other chick you were banging is a lot better looking though neither are ugly ;). I hope the writers don't turn Scott into frickin Kirk - do the job and bang the chicks :shifty:

Err... no. But she does have crazy boobage (assuming I'm not confusing my secondary characters)

I hope the writers don't turn Scott into frickin Kirk - do the job and bang the chicks :shifty:
Well, I liked Kirk. So if Kirk is the intent they really fucked up, cause Scott is a twat.

Is there really such a complete collective amnesia about "Air, pt 3" around here?

As for her not going for Eli... Did you forget about the "Darkness" shower scene as well? It was made pretty clear from that scene that she views Eli as a friend - but certainly not a romantic friend. More like a brother.

Ahh... good old women. Always want the geeks as brothers :guffaw:

It's not particularly unrealistic, so I don't have a problem with it, but I just want Eli to not go the aww shucks route. He needs to hold a grudge against Lt. Greasy Nuts for a long time.

Actually, the passage of time between the episodes are measured in hours rather than weeks. There were at least two lines that mentioned that it's only been a day since the Senator's death and the stop at the desert planet. Though I could have done without what looks to become an unrequited love story, in terms of narrative logic, although Chloe has spent more (on screen) time with Eli, Scott was the one she made an emotional connection with, however brief.
