So, no redemption is possible?I don't think Burnham should ever be allowed back into the Starfleet command structure to be eligible for rank. She can remain a specialist.
This is my thinking as well.
I have yet to see an acronym consistently used by any community.
Kirk committed mutiny in the films, but after he saved the world... starfleet looked the other way.I don't think Burnham should ever be allowed back into the Starfleet command structure to be eligible for rank. She can remain a specialist.
I don't know at least Kirk was originally a Captain and you no doubt have a better knowledge of the instances involving him. Burnham should be imprisoned. She is not. To leap frog to the top job on a ship? I hope that shark doesn't jump too soon.Kirk committed mutiny in the films, but after he saved the world... starfleet looked the other way.
They'll do the same with Burnham. It's inevitable. If they weren't going to have her take charge, they would have made Lorca a competent, heroic Captain, instead of an unstable war monger.
Redemption at a personal level, maybe. The crew of the Equinox lost rank. Tom Paris lost rank. Really I don't know what the rules are within this present Discovery version of Starfleet's command structure. Both the crew of Equinox and Tom didn't have the official sentence Burnham did (though previously Tom was serving in a penal colony for being dishonourably discharged). Michael was stripped of rank and should be imprisoned. At the very least she should be without rank. So, no redemption is possible?
Why should it matter if the mutineer was a formerly a Captain?I don't know at least Kirk was originally a Captain and you no doubt have a better knowledge of the instances involving him. No he was serving time for treason. Being dishonourably discharged isn't a crime, it's the result of being convicted of a crime or unacceptable behaviour.Tom was serving in a penal colony for being dishonourably discharged

Wasn't that Locarno?Tom Paris was discharged from starfleet because he was negligent and killed people and lied to get away with it. But it's totally cool for him to get a second chance, right?
Wasn't that Locarno?
As demonstrated by Kirk, if an officer demonstrates service to the Federation then they can be reinstated. Paris was out of necessity, but it wasn't like he was stripped of his rank after returning to Earth. Clearly, there is precedence in Starfleet regulations for redemption.Redemption at a personal level, maybe. The crew of the Equinox lost rank. Tom Paris lost rank. Why not is more my question? I'm demonstrating that the commission of a crime, especially one admitted, shouldn't preclude an officer from command, especially in this so called "enlightened" humanity.Kirk was a Captain with a record of command experience. Why should Michael be a Captain? She admitted to a crime and she is already having her second chance.
Commission of a crime shouldn't be ignored either.. and Wesley and Tom and Kirk aren't exactly references Michael will be able to use. Michael doesn't hold any rank, so thoughts of her becoming Captain and over better qualified and higher ranked candidates with more experience and service would be a big stretch. Why not is more my question? Also, Wesley Crusher covered up another cadet's death and was able to continue forward.
