When did you first see the ocean?

Born and raised in Va. Beach so playing in the Atlantic was always a part of my life. I moved to Hawaii for five years right out of college before returning to Virginia. I pretty much have to live around a body of water.

Age 6 - Ocean City, MD. I got sunburned. The return trip across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge at night was scary (don't know why though, it was dark and couldn't see anything).

Living in the midwest most of my life, until I saw the Atlantic in 1965, Lake Michigan had been the largest body of water I'd seen. I didn't see the Pacific until 1990.

Must've been on a trip to southern Portugal (to the Algarve region near Faro) with my parents and grand parents. I think I was 4.

So trek bbs. When did you first see the ocean where you lived?
Atlantic, too young to remember. Pacific, when I was 32. But neither where I lived - that would be an impressive trick! (Or some seriously out-of-hand global warming, take your pick.)

I've lived in Illinois and Colorado. If I've ever seen an ocean where I lived, we'd all have been in trouble.

Probably 14 or 15 first time I visited a place in sight of the Pacific. 19 for the Atlantic.

I saw the Pacific for the first time when I was 18. Then, when I was 19 I went to England and saw the Atlantic. I spent several months living near the English Channel so I saw it pretty much every day.

In the Danish language we don't differentiate between oceans and seas...

I must've been less than a year old when I was first at the beach. No one here lives further from a beach than a twenty minute drive!

However, my first 'ocean', was when I dipped my toes in the Atlantic by Daytona Beach about eight years ago.

Atlantic, when I was about 9 or 10.

That's the only beach I've seen, though. Never traveled far enough west to see the Pacific.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, so very early (before I can remember).

I first saw the Atlantic at 18, when I went off to college.

Does the Gulf of Mexico counts? It should. And if so...I don't know! I remember visiting Mobile as a youngster, because I saw the USS Alabama, but I was so young I thought when we boarded the battleship that we were going somewhere. Let's say I was eight.

Technically I saw the Pacific ocean when I was a toddler, but those memories are long gone.

Pacific: I was born within ten miles of it, so probably within a fortnight of being born.

Atlantic: 29

Gulf of Mexico: 35

Since the day I came home from the hospital; we lived on the ocean front (Atlantic).

When I was about 12 years old and my aunt and uncle took me to the beach (they live in NJ).

Oh, and the thread title reminds me of Thomas Magnum's "did you see the sunrise" bit.
