When did the TOS crew die?

They refer to Saavik as "Mr Saavik", maybe a smilar thing happened with Demora.

I don't think they referred to Saavik as a 'he' regardless of the title moniker they used.

Thank you for proving me right.

Did you actually watch the episode? Once the Keeper realized that humanity didn’t like being incarcerated, Pike became useless to them, and that’s why they let him go. This is just getting silly now.
Doesn't "The Menagerie" show Pike and Vina living happily ever after?

We obviously know Kirk and Spock's fate as well.

As for Sulu, Chekov and Uhura? The only thing we know for sure is that it's possible Sulu was still alive in 2344, since Chakotay mentions a 'Captain Sulu' (pronoun-he) patrolling the Cardassian border at that time. We don't know if it's Hikaru, though.

Chekov got a ship named after him (Springfield class U.S.S. Chekov, destroyed at Wolf 359) but we don't know if the ship was posthumously named for him. Uhura, however, we know nothing about past TUC.

I don't think they name ships after people still alive and even so, what had Chekov done that was so extraordinary as to deserve having a ship named after him?

The whole “everyone becomes a captain” thing in Trek is tiresome. Just like in real life, most people join Starfleet, put in their twenty years as a turbolift inspection officer or whatever, then retire and collect their pension. Everyone can’t be a superstar, nor does everyone want to.

I was referring to Pike's first trip to Talos as seen in 'The Cage' footage. And yes, when he returns to Talos, he and Vina seem to live happily ever after.

The U.S.S. Ronald Reagan was launched while Reagan was still alive.

...and even so, what had Chekov done that was so extraordinary as to deserve having a ship named after him?

Well, he along with the rest of the Enterprise crew saved Earth from being destroyed by the Whale Probe. And V'ger. And a multitude of other threats to the Federation. I think that would suffice as 'doing something extraordinary.'

What did Nog do to deserve a ship named after him, for that matter?

That's classified.

Ah, but do we watch the show about the turbolift inspection officer?

...

Along with four hundred members of the crew, not to mention Illia and Decker who died in the process... How many hundreds of ships do the Federation have?

Why not? People watch shows centered around babysitters or manservants for many seasons.
I wasn't aware it was on air.:vulcan:

The larger point I was trying to make is that the adventures of the heroes of the week would not necessarily be regarded as the day to day experience of many Starfleet officers.

The operative words being "part of the crew".
Since he was a part of the senior staff I imagine Kirk put in for a special commendation, in addition to serving on the historic 5 year mission. His contribution was enough for Starfleet Command, I guess.

There are at least four or five people who were more determining on these missions than he was... when did they name a ship after Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, and Uhura?
