What's wrong with this picture?

It is from Dr Who. The Doctor (who is an alien) was asked why he had a Northern accent (meaning from the north of England). The Doctor replied "Lots of planets have a north".

Our social studies program here in the United States is pretty much a joke. Got worse with Bush. Here in Texas they are not only pushing a religious science program but also a religious historical program as well.

I want to curl up and cry. Where is Carrie when I need her?

Oh snap. :guffaw:

the ignorance of Americans never ceases to amaze me. i mean, okay, i'm not entirely clued up on the whole of world history and so on, but Primus, even i can figure out where most places are in the world.

and, isn't it nice that Pleco's history teacher missed FOURTEEN MONTHS of world war 2..?

I can too. Why are all Americans lumped together in one sentence?

I was kind of wondering that, too. Ignorance, alas, knows no national boundries.
Ironically, not knowing national boundaries was precisely the problem. ;)

I guess mileage really does vary. I got a superb education in social studies, history, and geography. I had to learn to identify every country in Africa, North America, and South America, and all the major ones in Europe and Asia. I learned about the history and cultures of many different countries. I grew up in San Jose, CA, and I attended the local public schools.
