Now that's what I call a liberated country.

It looks like Egypt has swapped houses with Iraq. I wonder if Iran will get on any better with their new neighbours than they did with the old ones.

It's as if some of those people working for the American media are actually trying to make themselves look like complete and total idiots in the eyes of the rest of the world (and probably half of their own citizens, as well).

"Half" sounds about right.

Seriously guys, no geography in American schools or what? :guffaw:

Not really. We learn that there are 7 continents, and we learn the names of the 50 United States, but that's pretty much where it ends.

Like Chicago? Seriously. Many Americans can't name all of the fifty states.
True. I can if I look at a map, but I couldn't list all 50 off the top of my head. There's always one or two I'd forget...usually Delaware.

Seriously, though, I don't know if other schools are different, but I never really learned any kind of geography beyond the continents, oceans, and the states. I never even had to learn the capitals.

THERE ARE 50 STATES!?!?!?:eek::rolleyes::lol:

That's what I thought :lol:

(And I would feel lucky if I could put 20 of those n the map -I would know the right continent to put the rest of them on though ;) )

I was taught a quick and sanatized version of WW2 (war began in 1941 when aggressor nations attacked Pearl Harbor) and there was no mention of the holocaust, just that the Nazis mindlessly slaughtered civilian populations and that they were very bad people.

Korea was an attempt to stop communism from spreading and since we saved South Korea we were the winners fair and square.

Never learned about Vietnam.

Geography was mostly "learn the fifty states and the provinces of Canada for extra credit."

There was very little effort to teach about other cultures, no attempt at all to explain the middle east (despite it being in the news every damn day) other than "bad people who hate America" and so on.

At least they taught me physics and science. They really made up for the lack of history/geography with some of the cool "science" stuff we did.

I can list the whole 50 in alphabetical order but that is only because I am a bit of a trivia buff.

When I was a tennager we had to be able to draw free-hand maps of the world, of Great Britain, and of Australia and we were expected to know where the 'major' countries in the world were.
