What's up with Christopher Judge's angel series?

The Borgified Corpse

I remember hearing that Christopher Judge was working on a TV series where he would have played one of the arc-angels sent to Earth, Gabriel or Michael I think. He also talked Michael Shanks into playing Lucifer. What ever happened to this series?

It's called Rage of Angels and its still "in development" apparently.

I found this quote online from a TV Guide interview:
TV Guide: You do look good. What's the project?

Judge: I've got a new show called Rage of Angels. We were supposed to go to camera, but unfortunately we didn't have the last bits of the deal done before the writers' strike came. We always thought we could do it under the Canadian writers' guild contract, but they rejected it because I'm an American, to show support for the American writers' guild. My partner is Brad Turner, a producer of 24, it's for MGM and [Michael] Shanks is starring alongside me. I play the archangel Gabriel. And Michael plays Lucifer. [Laughs] We're shooting a two-hour movie/pilot.

TV Guide: Which will air where?

Judge: Not Sci Fi. [Laughs] It will be one of the broadcast networks.

Interesting that it won't be on Sci Fi. Which could be good news or bad news. I wonder if any progress has been made since the writer's strike ended?

He should want it on Sci-fi.

On any other station he will cancel it after 5 episodes, at least Sci-fi will keep it for the first season.

Sounds fun, but he better cast someone better than Shanks as Lucifer, because of the inevitable comparison with Ray Wise's Satan on Reaper, and there's no way Shanks can hold his own against Wise. I can't think of who can, really, but the guy has got to at least be in the same ballpark.

Maybe Judge should decide his series is a Reaper spinoff and cast Wise. :rommie: I mean the guy owns Satan at this point.

If I remember correctly Michael Shanks mentioned at FedCon this year, that the plan is now to make it into a feature film and not a series. I could be wrong though.

Supposedly, casting Shanks as Lucifer was a big part of how Judge was ultimately able to sell the series. Naturally, he promoted this heavily before actually talking to Shanks about it at all, thus making it nearly impossible for Shanks to back out.:p

I'm surprised to hear that Judge is American. I was sure that he was Canadian.

^Funnily enough so was I, I had an argument about it the other day with my nephew - he won. :o

Went to high school in Sacramento (I believe at Cordova High School) and played safety for the Oregon Ducks in college.

I was shocked to discover that the "Doug Judge" I watched play at Autzen Stadium when I was in HS was in fact the "Chris Judge" I watched for years on Stargate until two years ago.

OK-I'm done with the useless off-topic info.
:)

Hell, since my grandfather is an Oregon alumnus, maybe this will give him a reason to watch Stargate SG-1. (In my dreams! But this is the closest I've come to a legitimate reason.)

A feature film with a couple actors nobody outside a very narrow niche fandom has heard of? That will never happen.

Maybe a made-for-Skiffy or direct-to-DVD schlockfest.

MGM does a lot of straight to DVD titles. Species 8 anyone? This sounds like one of those.

I think Shanks would make a great Satan. Satan should be played by a self-centered, egotistical type. Quid pro quo.
