What's this...? TOS.5.2

Thanks for that info, Redfern. I have yet to use anyone else's mesh in my art, as it's a thing with me, but good to know in case I ever change my mind, eh. ;)

Another shot (I believe perhaps my favorite):

This just keeps getting better and better Great stuff... Wow!!!

I'm not sure if you were interested, but this is Doug Drexler's article on the original Enterprise's color. I can't wait to see another render of your take on the ship!!

James

That's a great article, and a wonderful reference for anyone attempting this kind of project, however if you look closely, you'll see that Deg's not only aware of the post, but that he's even commented a few times on it. Still a good tip, though!

And deg3D, if you're looking for ideas, perhaps some scenes of your Enterprise orbiting several planets of our solar system would be in order... I'd love to see it skimming Saturn's rings or orbiting Jupiter, or just above the moon (perhaps from the perspective of the Apollo landing site...). Keep up the good work!

deg, I was just checking out your site, and I loved the music background playing over the ship's 'flyover' - that made me want to see an actual animated flyover of the ship to that track...perhaps an old-style observation pod could even fly around the old girl in spacedock and dock, a la Motion Picture! :) I'd love to see the TMP power-up scene with this rendition of the Enterprise - the lights come on, the nacelle caps slowly start glowing and spinning, leaving spacedock, then warping out...

I think this rendition of the Enterprise is movie-level quality.

Thanks, for the tip, and ideas, and for visiting my website. Glad you enjoyed it, JJohnson! :)

Indeed, rest assured, I have many more TOS.5 E shots waiting to come out, including a Moon and G7 (which I am building now) shot, as well as the other planets.

I still have to get around to building my TOS.5 space-dry-dock. I'm going to ask John (Eaves) to rough-design one for me. Once that is built, I can consider a TMP fly-around animation.

For now, here's a rough shot of my progress with my TOS.5 G7. This is just throw-away lighting and surfacing. For one, the "globes" will not be that shiny, they're going to be the brushed-metal look ala TOS.5 E, and the deck will have blurring reflections, and the whole bay is missing her internal lighting-rig. The whole scene as it is now is back in my modeling software (modo) when the actual finals are, surfaced, lit, and rendered in LightWave.

Thanks, again, my friend!

And thanks for initially fielding JJohnson's comment for me, Psion. ;)

Man, the chrome looks sweet! You should keep it.

I got your back ... "dude". :D

And nice photo of the shuttle -- perhaps you should build a 3D model of it to go along with your Enterprise!

Awesome shot of a lovely starfleet shuttle :) :techman:

Nifty! I like the antenna on top and the handles on the aft service panels. The chrome handholds are nice too, but what's the purpose of running them all the way to the ceiling and floor?

Thanks, guys! :)

...but what's the purpose of running them all the way to the ceiling and floor?

Just general utilitarian hand-holds, for moving to one's seat, turbulence while sitting in one's seat, and perhaps for extra emergency evac SRO passengers.

^ And possibly for situations in which in ship's onboard artificial gravity is either disabled or simply turned off. I like those handles. Very nice touch, and it fits in well with TOS.

The only thing your interior cabin is missing would be some kind of foldaway computer/viewscreen facilities for the passengers. Could there at least be a way that a spherical scanner-on-an-articulating-arm could be brought out from behind/off-to-the-side-of a passenger's head, so (s)he could read or do work while seated and in flight?

Ah, good point on the gravity there, my friend. ;) And she's still a WIP, Wingsley, and that was my exact idea. Either a hatch (which would hide it though), or most likely an articulated-arm set-up that brings a monitor down from over-head/behind.

I still have a bunch of other small control panel details to add, as well as the larger nurnies details up on the walls/corners. Then she has to be painted as well. This is very much still a WIP. ;)
