I know posting in an old thread is a no-no, but there's no good place for this and it serves as an epilogue to my initial post so I figure...

Anyway, I picked up The Center Seat on DVD and it has the full interview with Kirstie Alley on it as a bonus.
She says in it that the single earring thing was simply her request. Apparently she had a habit of always losing one earring at the time, so she asked if she could wear just one. Now you have your answer, me from five years ago.
