Whatever happened to Short Round?

It would have been cool for an adult Short Round to appear in one of the later films, preferably briefly!

"Doctor Jones!"

"Huh?"

"Doctor Jones! It's me--Short Round!"

"Shorty? What are you--look out!"

*Squish*

"NOOOOOO!"

It has worked, the forumla has been working since Robin joined Batman, since Dr. Watson joined Holmes, sense Jubilee & Kitty joined Wolverine, since Bucky joined Capt. America.
Watson? One of these things is not quite like the other.
Yeah, how did Watson get in there? Watson isn't a boy sidekick -- in fact, he's older than Holmes. And the two were together from the very first story.

(Young Sherlock Holmes, in which Holmes and Watson meet for the first time as teenage schoolboys, and Watson is the younger of the pair, is definitely non-canon. It makes true Baker Streeters cringe.)

As for comic-book heroes having juvenile sidekicks, here's what Jules Feiffer had to say in his book The Great Comic Book Heroes:
I couldn’t stand boy companions. If the theory behind Robin the Boy Wonder, Roy the Superboy, The Sandman's Sandy, The Shield's Rusty, The Human Torch's Toro, The Green Arrow's Speedy was to give young readers a character with whom to identify, it failed dismally in my case. The super grownups were the ones I identified with. They were versions of me in the future. There was still time to prepare. But Robin the Boy Wonder was my own age. One need only look at him to see he could fight better, swing from a rope better, play ball better, eat better, and live better — for while I lived in the east Bronx, Robin lived in a mansion, and while I was trying, somehow, to please my mother — and getting it all wrong — Robin was rescuing Batman and getting the gold medals . . .

He was obviously an 'A' student, the center of every circle, the one picked for greatness in the crowd — God, how I hated him. You can imagine how pleased I was when, years later, I heard he was a fag.
(Feiffer was being tongue-in-cheek about that last part, of course.)

I never had to hear Bucky spouting inane lines every couple of minutes and the worst Robin ever said was "Holy[insert word]Batman, but I was 3 to 6 years old when I was watching that.

I guess this is just one of those rare occassions where subjective opinion equates to objective reality. ;)

You're entitled to your opinion, but just because you believe something is so does not actually make it so, so there's no 'objective reality' about it. I personally hold the opinion that Temple of Doom is the best out of all four Indiana Jones movies, but you don't see/hear me going around trumpeting that opinion as concrete fact (which cannot, unfortunately, be said of you, since you've repeatedly stated that Short Round is unequivocably and inarguably annoying, moreso than even Willie Scott, and that the character never should have been created... without leaving room for anyone to disagree with you).
Dude, lighten up. It's only a movie.

:techman: True.
I don't like it (in my opinion!) when someone tries to analyze another person's whole psychology, political and philosophical leanings and temperment according to them saying something completely innocuous like "Short Round was annoying".

The issues isn't the film but rather your "if I say so, then it must be" attitude.
That's what he's addressing
Just sayin'.

Fixed.

One of my biggest pet peeves in the world is people who state their OPINIONS as if they are 100% undisputable and universal fact. IOW, just because you find Short Round annoying but don't find other sidekick characters (such as those mentioned) equally as annoying does not mean that everyone else does.
QFT. :bolian:

Shouldn't you say: "In my opinion QFT :bolian:" ?

You're probably one of those people that when someone says "This coffee tastes like shit!" You counter with " How do you know? Have you ever tasted shit?"
Wipe your chin.

:p

It's his pet peeve, therefore it's a given that it is his opinion.

:p

In your opinion!

I don't get it.

Ya got somethin' brown there... no, right there...

In my opinion, none of them were ever as annoying as Short Round was.

At least Short Round wasn't as bad as the character the same actor played in Red Sonjia.

Short Round - Key Huay Quan(spelling?)
Prince Annoying - Ernie Reyes Jr.

Different actors.

My bad, thanks for the correction.
