I always figured he was either dead by the time of Last Crusade, or else Indy scraped together enough money to send the kid off to school.
I agree it would've been cute to see him make a cameo at the wedding in Crystal Skull (along with John-Rhys Davies as Sallah, of course)
Sallah would have been dead by this time (1957) and even if he wasn't, he and Indy wouldn't be friends due to political differences between Egypt and the U.S.A.
Why do you say that Sallah automatically would've been dead by 1957? Raiders took place in 1936, a gap of 21 years. It's now been 21 years since Last Crusade was released in 1989, and John Rhys-Davies is still with us. What makes you think that the character would be dead when the actor isn't?
And, like Nardpuncher, I'm really not getting why the Suez Crisis would mean the end of Indy and Sallah's friendship. We don't really know anything of either character's politics, and I don't recall them ever having any kind of political discussion.

I was 11 when Temple of Doom came out and I know they included Short Round to try and appeal to kids...but it can't work, as I was relating to Indy.
Though it doesn't make a lot of sense, kids will say "Oooh! I'm THAT guy!" when they watch a movie, so kids like to think that somehow they are the sweaty, 38 year-old archeologist and the kid is just in the way.
It has worked, the forumla has been working since Robin joined Batman, since Dr. Watson joined Holmes, sense Jubilee & Kitty joined Wolverine, since Bucky joined Capt. America.

One of my biggest pet peeves in the world is people who state their OPINIONS as if they are 100% undisputable and universal fact. IOW, just because you find Short Round annoying but don't find other sidekick characters (such as those mentioned) equally as annoying does not mean that everyone else does.

I'd say that they aren't daydreaming that they are the sweaty 38 year-old archeologist, but rather that they are doing the things the archeologist is doing as themselves, as they are.

You're entitled to your opinion, but just because you believe something is so does not actually make it so, so there's no 'objective reality' about it. I personally hold the opinion that Temple of Doom is the best out of all four Indiana Jones movies, but you don't see/hear me going around trumpeting that opinion as concrete fact (which cannot, unfortunately, be said of you, since you've repeatedly stated that Short Round is unequivocably and inarguably annoying, moreso than even Willie Scott, and that the character never should have been created... without leaving room for anyone to disagree with you).

Just because people have stuck kids in movies with the hope that it will make the movie (or comic book etc.) more attractive to kids doesn't mean it works.

Wasn't Temple of Doom a prequel? Willie loses out because she isn't Marion (one of the greatest movie heroines of all time) and yeah, because she is annoying and useless to boot. Short Round is a dodgy comic caricature but I do find it disappointing that ToD lacks any character continuity. It would have been cool for an adult Short Round to appear in one of the later films, preferably briefly!
