What would you like to see in the 2010 SOTL Calendar?

It seems that a lot of you are not excited over most of the preview shots from the upcoming calendar. Tell us what would be really exciting to see... but be careful what you wish for.

Speaking for myself, I would like to see the Enterprise from Phase II; some TOS variants, and beauty shots of various ships. I'd also like to see some better proofing (I remember a few years back seeing a Connie, the Lexington, I believe, where the main registry was changed but all the other registries were still 1701...)

I didn't find the 2008 calendar to be that good, and the 2009 one doesn't look too good either, to be honest, but I would gladly buy the calendar again if at least six of the months have stuff that interests me.

It might be fun to see a "worm's eye view" of the Enterprise-D, with some of its ventral cargo hatches open, and some Sphinx cargo shuttles loading the ship for a forthcoming mission.

A shot of your TMP-era shuttlecraft -- perhaps with attached nacelles -- would be fun, too.

And let's not forget your take on the Ambassador.

How about some of the ships shown in TOS-R, but in non-TOS-R situations?

And how about some more views of your "other" Enterprise-C?

It might also be fun to see some "missing link" ships between the NX-01 and the NCC-1701.

Another thing that would really be neat would be to take some of the gorgeous TOS-R artwork like the Starbase 11 scenes we see from "Court Martial" and "The Menagerie" (or vistas like it) and do interesting things with it. (Put a space station in the sky above, or ship a cargo drone landing, or show someone in a skyscraper office looking out over the base vista, etc.) The important thing would be to make it look like it "fits" in the TOS universe.

Yet another idea I've had would be to take a design feature that dates back to the TOS Enterprise, the "notch" in aft underside of the secondary hull, and show the starship hauling a small scout-type (maybe Class V) vessel there in tow, to be released out in deep space for a mission. (The "notch" takes on a design role as a tug-pad of sorts.) Think of the scout as a TOS-era ancestor to the Runabout; a tiny starship with a small crew for limited missions, but this generation's version is too large to fit in a hangar deck.

A theme.
It would be interesting if all the images were from a single, original story.
Could be a book tie in to this too...

Agreed... Mr. Probert... ANY image you could offer that might show the 1701-D in Spacedock, or even drydock, for that matter, with hatches open, shuttles loading, workbees or Sphinx pods inspecting the ship, prepping it to get underway for the first time would be truly magnificent.

Maybe even a picture of some people inside a large Spacedock lounge, looking at the 1701-D through the massive windows of the lounge, as service craft scurry to and from the ship... that would be spectacular.

And, of course, ANY image featuring a Nebula-Class ship would be most welcome, but I say that because it's my favorite class of Trek ship. :D

I'd really like to see a 'Concept-Ships of the Line'-calendar.

But if the CGI were more like this

then that would be a huge improvement.

^Agreed. I could care less what the images show, so long as the CGI is high-quality, a feature the images from this year's calender seem to lack.

EDIT: Or, if you wanted to get really ballsy, you could do a fan submission calender, a la the Titan design contest, where fans would send in artwork and the 12 winners would get their images used in the calender....

That is a really good idea :)

I'm still a bit looking, but I'm leaning towards creating my version of the 1701-F. I thought the E had some very nice (design) features, but from certain angles it looked agressive, perhaps the movies it was in emphasized that some more. I think what I would like to recreate is the feeling of the D. Exploration in style, but with a punch if it's needed.

Other options could be: a late 24th century daedalus II class or a section 31 small infiltration ship.

Even though I know it would be tough to ask for (or arrange) I'd personally love a calendar featuring ships from the SFU.

A Souldra dreadnought using Black Shards to leech life from a planetary surface, an Andromedan Dominator ripping an opponent apart using its tractor-repulsor beams, a Seltorian Battlewagon taking down a Tholian Dyson Sphere, a Bolosco trade ship in the midst of a deal, a Maghadim battlecruiser bursting out of the Core radiation shell, or a Vincennes-class CX keeping a Klingon DX at bay...

...that would be awesome.

A Strange New Worlds calendar :bolian: (I suggested a Strange New Worlds art book a couple years ago in the Trek Lit forum, because I think the artists are being short-changed, and was met with a resounding silence from TPTB :( ). I think this is a great idea for the calendar (maybe we can see the Grandeur and Vanguard in there!)

I'd like to see some famous battles

The Romulan attack on Khitomer
Wolf 359
The Battle of Maxia with the Stargazer (The Picard Maneuver!)
Chin'toka
The Battle of Andoria
The Battle of Sector 001
The Year of Hell
The Battle of the Mutara Nebula

or maybe a calendar where each month features a major milestone in Earth's space exploration history, and future . . . Phoenix, DY series sleeper ships, early warp vessels (not the NX-01 ), early starfleet ships, TOS, TMP, TNG, post TNG eras(Pasteur, Dauntless, Relativity etc)

I like the theme idea, but the one year they did a theme, it kind of fell flat. I think the theme was amateur snapshots taken by Starfleet officers, or something like that. A couple of them were downright ugly and I pulled my calendar down those months.

While if it were to come from Andy Probert, I'd like to see more unseen areas of the 1701-D. Perhaps the Cetacean Area or a shot from the exterior, looking into the interior of some large open lounge/space with the reflection of some colorful space effect on the windows, so as to illustrate the vastness of the Galaxy-Class starship (the bay windows below the bridge module or the windows right below the registry on the underbelly of the saucer section-- the more logical choice for a "Ten-Forward"). Or any other concepts that Andy Probert might have to fill out that great lady of space.

Let's see Starfleet discovering new civilazations and strange new worlds.
