What would you like to see in the 2010 SOTL Calendar?

^^

Not sure that would necessarily be a "Ships of the Line" concept ;)

It is if you show various ships in the process of doing it.

But, if that still doesn't work, some other stuff I'd like to see:

Sphinx type workpods.

A Cheyenne Class starship.

A squadron of those fighters from the 2009 calendar in action.

A fully-realized portrait of Franz Joseph's "Starfleet Headquarters" from the old Star Fleet Technical Manual.

Hmm.. lets see. :)

Of course a nice view of the TMP refit, one of the Ent D, maybe a formation shot of the two ships.

A shot of a Sydney class freighter who just landed on a planet I just LOVE that design and shape/construction wise she seems to be perfect for that. (and yes I know you don't like that design ;) )

A "little ships" shot with an Oberth and Nova class ship with various kinds of shuttles and other little spacecrafts.

Of course a big ass beauty shot of the D'deridex class.

And please let me know when you do a Probert carreer calendar including all your designs, with few beauty shots of Streethawk if thats possible. :D I loved the way that bike looked.

I actually really like the slipstream design in this years. Id like to see more of Future starfleet. Things we're not likely to see on screen.

You know... a shot of this ship with the camera positioned between the upper and lower hulls, looking forward, would look really cool -- especially if the ship were facing the Enterprise-D.

The command ops/bridge of Earth's Space Dock

BTW I like all the ships of the line Calenders Keep up the good work!!!

The Dauntless
Prometheous
Daedalus
A fixed wing style Federation vessel
A federation scoutship with the phase cloak
A federation carrier

^Okay, a federation scoutship with the phase cloak after something has gone horribly wrong. Mwahaha!

Okay, seriously, I love the refit Enterprise. Movie-era shots, therefore, are a big plus to me. I also like the Enterprise-E, because its swoopy, looks-like-its-going-at-warp-ten-standing-still design reminds me of the refit Enterprise. So TNG movie-era shots are also cool.

Artistically, the lighting in some of the shots can look a little flat and undramatic. More interesting lighting would be nice. In the 2009 preview images, the cover is an excellent example of the sort of lighting I'd like. Also, I'd like it if there was some post processing going on. A lot of the pictures look like they went straight from Lightwave to the printer's office. Bloom, grain, and levels adjustment would all help tremendously to take the CG edge off of the images.

I realize that last batch is more down to the style and preference of the individual artists, but I'd rather have gorgeous, jaw-dropping images of anything than fair to middling images of whatever spaceships I happen to like.

I would love to see the Aquashuttle from The Ambergris Element, the Heavy Shuttle from Mudd's Passion and the Long-Range Shuttle from The Slaver Weapon. That should add some variety to the calendar. Thank you Mr. Probert for asking us what we would like to see in the 2010 calendar. :techman: :techman::techman:

Oh yeah. That would be cool. Really thought out versions of TAS ships in CG.

Along that line of thinking, how about a shot of the Enterprise among the ships in the Delta Triangle?

Honestly, all I want is quality artwork. This year's calender has two images that look fantastic (the experiemental ship and of course Andrew Probert's painting) and the rest are really awkward and rudimentary-seeming POV-RAY renders of various ships.

My only regular criticism of the calendar is the predeliction for dark images with dramatic backlighting. Sure it looks cool, but I want to see detail on the ships for modeling reference.

If the CGi is a bit higher then that would help. I would like to see a Phase II Enterprise also along with some scene from the Romulan War which will be detailed in a future "Enterprise" Book. How about more futuristic ships Enterpise Z or whatever letter they won't reach or some unused concept art that almost might have been the next Enterprise.

^Agreed. I could care less what the images show, so long as the CGI is high-quality, a feature the images from this year's calender seem to lack.

EDIT: Or, if you wanted to get really ballsy, you could do a fan submission calender, a la the Titan design contest, where fans would send in artwork and the 12 winners would get their images used in the calender....

That's an excellent idea! :techman:
