What would you like to have seen...

I always wonder what happened to the gray skinned aliens that wore helmets and clapped really fast near the end of TUC...

Was a name for their species ever proposed?

This one?

No, but they did wear a re-use of the Translator Service helmets, covered with the same orange nylon netting I had as curtains in the 70s and 80s.

Yes! That's them. Is that the same translator helmet that the operations officer at Starfleet HQ used in TVH?

Dunno, but the white and yellow uniforms from TMP were dyed green, and given metal UFP badges, to be worn by the ushers at the Council HQ in ST IV.

More Saavik.

Wasn't the character of Valeris in ST:VI originally supposed to be Saavik? I thought that I had read where they couldn't get Kirstie Alley to play the part so they just changed it to a new character.

Yes. Nick Meyer wanted her to reprise Saavik, but wasn't interested in Robin Curtis. And Kim Cattrall (Meyer's original pick for ST II) wasn't keen on being the third actress to play the role, so she collaborated with Meyer to create a new Vulcan character.

Alley did play Saavik one other time: in a stage play written by Walter Koenig for the disastrous Ultimate Fantasy Convention (aka "Ultimate Fiasco" aka "The Con of Wrath"), between ST II and ST III.

I think I'd heard something like that also but I don't believe it had to do with Kirstie Alley. She had already wanted too much money by the time ST3:TSFS was made, which is why they got Robin Curits to replace her. I'm pretty sure that the Saavik character was discussed in the early stages of story development for TUC but they realized the character (and the actress) would be too old to be still believable as an impressionable young Lieutenant.

I'm glad they changed the character. I wouldn't have cared to see Saavik become a murderous traitor.

I guess that's one version of the story. I read where Kirstie Alley said they wanted to pay her less in ST:III than they did in ST:II, even though ST:III was a bigger part for Saavik.

Yes, that sounds right. I'm getting old and my memory ain't what it used to be. :alienblush:

Essentially yes. It was discussed at length in a different thread only weeks ago. But Meyer did also attempt to woo Alley back for ST VI. We never heard why she turned him down that time. Similarly, when she was in "Cheers", she turned down a cameo to be Saavik in TNG, opposite Captain "Frasier Crane".

Chris Pike vrs Gary Mitchell vrs William Decker. Did they even bother to look for Decker after that? oh yea and a return to Talos four, a place that they may never had actually left to begin with. It could be Earth itself.

Hmm, interesting. Obviously JJ Abrams depicted his idea of Pike in ST 2009. For what it's worth, there are fan films out there in which Mitchell and Decker show up (Decker is even portrayed by William Windom).
