I would get rid of the Klingons entirely. Do a different race, maybe even bring back the Xindi and they can show what happened to the Xindi races that led to people forgetting about them. Either that or lay off the Klingon prosthetics and let them act naturally. I can't get over the Klingon scenes because they drag the series down.
So, most of the complaints I’m seeing in this thread seem to be: “Turn Star Trek back to how I remember it. I’m resistant to change!”
Look, I respect that this might be too big of a change for some. I still have a few issues with the show. But, at the end of the day, Star Trek has always been different things to different people. Each iteration has had fans and detractors. And even in those groups of fans, there have those who have nitpicked the hell out of it. If you don’t like the show, that’s fine. But going back to what we had before just because it’s familiar? That doesn’t particularly sound very Star Trek-y to me. While I don’t love everything they’ve done, the changes, particularly in the look and feel of the show, are the least of my concerns.
I wonder what Percentage of Trek deals with the Klingons though. I know all of the original series movies other than Wrath of Khan dealt something with the Klingons. There were a few Star Trek episodes, and then TNG and DS9 did a lot with the Klingons too. With Discovery doing more stuff with Klingons, how is that any different than what came before? That's why I wish we could have had a race where we don't know much of, or we can give more backstory to, like The Xindi.

The problem is that earlier Trek was more enjoyable than STD.

I also would make the series lighter and writing these characters with warts but likable. I think the reason I have gravitated towards Tilly was because she is a likeable character who wants to do the right thing but she has social anxiety to the point where it might be more of a challenge for her than for others.
I would agree with you on much of this. I’m admittedly tired of the Klingons. It’s one of my issues with the show. (Not the looks. I don’t give a fuck about that. Just their presence.)
I'm sorry but...you want to replace a race virtually every Star Trek fan loves and wants to see more of, especially the war we've heard of but never seen with....the XINDI?
Your opinion but if I could, I'd greatly broaden the role of the Klingons. Mind you, I'd do so by making likable Klingons and making it clear they're not all Orc cannibals.
I, on the other hand, am ONLY watching the show for Klingons. I may not like everything I see but I couldn't care less about the Federation and want to see more of my favorites.
This is what I don't get about this criticism: what was episode 4 about if not this? No, we didn't beam down the Captain, science officer and two redshirts to Madeupicus IV to find the new life, but find it we did, and the whole episode was about interacting with it and understanding it, and not approaching it as a threat because of its first reaction to us. Classic Star Trek.Star Trek seeks out life, diversely, seeks out exploration, seeks out common ground
I would have preferred a new enemy because it ALWAYS has to be about the Klingons. But that’s not the case here. I’m trying to make the best of it. After all, you don’t always get what you want.
100% agreed. There was about 20 minutes during the pilot, when the Shenzhou was retrieving the damaged probe, that did what I wanted the show to do. There was banter, some fun, some conflict but nothing grimdark, a sense of adventure, and a sense that I as a viewer could luxuriate in what a lush production this series is.
I would change the show to allow more of that, and less of things like Landry being a douchebag with a functional IQ of 20.
I feel the opposite as the Klingons are still valuable as antagonists and yet got set aside for the Dominion and the Xindi. We never got to see a Federation war against them and their culture.
