What would be a deal breaker for you in Discovery?

Yeah.

Credible threats are actionable in most places. Threats occurring on the Internet are, apparently, almost never properly investigated unless they're against very high profile public figures.

I don't know, an episode like Threshold being the first episode would definitely turn me off. Granted, every Star Trek series often has some real clunkers in the first season, so I guess that wouldn't necessarily put me off entirely, regarding the rest of the show, but it would have to work harder to get me to stay.

Some of the episodes in the first season of TNG were just absolutely gawd awful, and I remember not even watching some of them all the way through, even though at the time it was brand new Star Trek. I still haven't to this day, and I'm not aware of any drug or hallucinogen that could help. But all the series had horrible clunkers and I'll bet DSC has a few before it's done. Us Star Trek fans are a notably picky lot.

Indeed we are. You know, the thing is, I loved most of the episodes from season 1 of TNG. Some of my favorite episodes of TNG are from seasons 1 and 2, some of those are considered clunkers, too. I mean, come on, how can you not like "The Royale"?

It can't be worse than TOS season 3 or
Voyager season 2. I lasted through those.

My only real deal breaker might be if it's like NuBSG.

Exactly! As far as I'm concerned, it's a classic.

"It is because I wouldn't show you my car?"

How do you ever get through any TV series then?
well if i'm liking a show, i don't really think about it. if it's a chore for me to watch something, i just stop. if discovery can't get me to like it in it's pilot, and i'm not saying it has to be the best episode ever, just more good than bad, i'll drop it and forget about it. but whether i like it or not, i'm just glad it will exist.

I kind of understand this aproach but I would think that if the show has special appeal that would mean I would stick with it longer than if it was just some generic show I don't feel connected to and I am trying simply while having no expectations. A new Trek show for example will have more leeway for me than just another network cop show.

I loved nuBSG...but nuBSG was intentionally the ANTI-Star Trek.

That kind of approach has no place in the Trek franchise. Agree that would be a deal-breaker.
I enjoyed nubsg at the time but i wonder if the episodes still hold up after knowing the show's resolution, and i didn't like the finale. Discovery can do better.

I highly doubt that would be the approach.
Yeah, because who would take an action-adventure science fiction franchise with many popular characters and a healthy dose of humor and snark and make a totally grimdark, humorless spinoff with the guy who plays Rumpelstiltskin from Once Upon a Time? That would never happen. (* Cough! *)
