What We Left Behind - Documentary Update Confirms *Some* HD Remastering

The original film prints do not have music on them
Aside from the camera negatives, there are no “original film prints” for TNG, DS9 and Voyager from the 80’s/90’s/2000’s. The original edits are on videotape and it was the videotapes that were used to create the movies in the first place, so the music was a part of the videotapes.

If this goes theatrical I still hope the people who bought the early stream and blu Ray will still get an early release. I’m starting to get to the point where I’m wondering where my donation went. I get they want to upgrade it for HD and that’s great, but now they have distribution, I’m starting to feel like what I paid for will be irrelavent. At the time I paid, I didn’t think I would be waiting two years for this thing.

Been looking forward to it for a long time. I wonder if it will be released on VOD before Blu Ray. I'll probably want the Blu Ray if it has a lot of special features

Well I am excited. I don't think it will last long in the theaters but hopefully it will sale like hot cakes on blu ray and also get ratings. Doesn't Shout have a tv channel? I was also excited they said that CBS was kind of following this so once again we get more hope for a Blu Ray release. Get a little bit of hope all the time.

I know. I gave up on a HD remaster a very long time ago, but all of this positive talk about CBS looking in on them has sparked a little kernel of hope. Just a little one. ;)

Also to consider in this is the existence of CBS All Access, their ambition to increase subscribers, and, as a result, we have an upcoming onslaught of Star Trek product.

Again, it's just the faintest whiff of hope. Or is it desperation? I get those mixed up. :techman:

Seems to me even just one key episode of DS9 streaming in 4K or HD (perhaps on CBS All Access where current key demographics are going for Trek) would add more interest in a theatrical release of the documentary, which would add more interest in a full series remaster. I bet since they're already in the vaults, the documentary team could remaster one episode with help from their friends David Frank and Christian Lerch (

I always thought if I could only have one episode of DS9 in HD, I'd choose The Way of the Warrior. That show was epic!

Gosh - it's so hard to choose. Because you'd want to choose an episode that is good from a marketing perspective as well, especially an episode with all of the ingredients to attract new fans. I have a lot of selfish choices, but I think you've chosen the best one for something like this. Lots of action, Worf is introduced (everybody knows him), I also feel like this was a turning point because it seemed like the actors really felt comfortable in their roles for the first time. Performances felt more natural and there was actually chemistry. I felt chemistry between Dax and Worf as well, so it was neat to see that relationship play out later.
