First one of course.. the quintessential 80s macho muscle action movie.

The second one was good too.. another setting, some new stuff and the start of the whole tie in to Aliens.

I kind of like Predators too. Laurence Fishburne and Topher Grace had some pretty good roles in that movie.

First one by a mile. I still think Predator 2 is incredibly weak. Predators was surprisingly decent.

Not only is the first one the best but it's also a much better film than its dumb Schwarzenegger action vehicle reputation initially suggests. The alien is brilliantly creepy as hell and the whole...."and then there were none"....structure is very nicely done

The second film is very interesting. I never quite understood the casting of Danny Glover though (was he really a big star?) seemed like an odd choice

Alien Vs Predator is the rocky IV of Predator films

You're right. It was a great flic.

Danny Glover was known as an "action star" in those days because of his work on Lethal Weapon. But, I agree that he was poorly cast for the movie. They needed someone who brought more star power to save that turd of a film. Personally, I think they should make another Predator film that reprises Schwarzenegger's original role. That would be worth watching.

:guffaw:

How is this even a question? The first film was probably the best balance of action cheese and genuine suspense to come out of the 80's. An undisputed classic that featured what was arguably Arnie's best work away from James Cameron and (thanks to Stan Winston's 11th hour save) gave us the second or third most recognisable movie monster of the late 20th century (i.e. post classic Universal & Toho monsters.)

The sequel is an utter mess, though not without it's charm. The AVP films aren't even worth me giving them a sentence of their own to describe why they're so shite and 'Predators' was a nice attempt, but ultimately rather forgettable.

Was there ever talk of Arnold coming back for Predator 2? Just imagine, the Predators return to go after him because he managed to defeat one of them. He's on a military base. It's the US military vs a team of Predators with Arnold waiting at the end of it!

IIRC, the original idea had Arnie in the role Gary Busey's character ended up filling. Not sure at which point in the production that was changed. Probably early scripting phase as I gather the reason he didn't come back was because they wouldn't meet his salary requirements.

Of course if he had signed on then we probably wouldn't have gotten him in Total Recall ....or was it Kindergarten Cop? I forget. ;)

Predator 2 of course is the reason why those terrible Vs movies even exist (the alien skull at the end of the film)

My second favourite Predator film is Star Trek: Voyager - nemesis ;)

Ha! Maybe you could say that Star Trek: Voyager - nemesis is the Rocky IV of Predator films. :techman:

Predator is perhaps the greatest documentary I've ever seen. I'm glad the alien didn't seem to kill the person filming it.

This is kinda like asking which is the best RoboCop movie.

For me, it's the first one.

Bar none.

Back in 1990-91, I really enjoyed Predator 2, but these days, I find that it has not aged well. I've tried watching it a few times in recent years and just can't get into the hokey, cartoonish "future" of the film.

And EVEN with Lethal Weapon on his resume, Danny Glover seemed like an odd choice to replace Arnold, even back in 1990.

I haven't seen the Alien vs Predator movies, but I did see Predators and thought it was very disappointing. I expected it to be better with the talent involved, and maybe I need to give it another chance, but I only thought it was marginally better than Predator 2.

No, the Aliens Vs Predator comics were out before Predator 2.
Granted the same year, 1990. The first issue was like March and the Predator 2 movie was December. But the AVP movies are based on the comics, not solely from that "easter egg" in Predator 2
