What was wrong with "These are the Voyages"

It was a bad episode, as far as "final episodes" go. It should have been the two parter that came before it to end the series. But even that might have been a bit of a downer. Setting the episode on the Holodeck was a chesey way to get the TNG actors into the show. I actually would have prefered time travel over that cop out. This was anything but a valintine to the fans.

"These Are The Voyages" is an episode of both ENT and NG. As I think that "Trials & Tribble-ations" is an episode of both DS9 and TOS too.

"Trials and Tribble-ations" was a clever tribute to a classic TOS episode, not a self-congratulatory "valentine" to Berman and Braga and their years with TNG.

I will have to always watch "These Are The Voyages" with "Pegasus". As I will have to always watch "Trials & Tribble-ations" with "Trouble With Tribbles".

You know, I never liked the idea that it was integrated with Pegasus. Riker and Troi are just visibly so much older. It would have been nice to have an hour and a half long episode with the Titan and some other issue that could have been introduced.

But then, I have always wanted a Titan series anyway.

What I didn't like:

-Trip's death felt cheap and meaningless. And to be taken out by random aliens-of-the week? Come on, let him be killed by the Romulans at least.
-Not advancing the officers' ranks. I mean, Mayweather is an ensign for 10 years for example. Come on. I wish more thought had gone into deciding where the characters would actually be in ten year's time.
-Shran's fall from grace. That didn't work for me either. I wish he had a different 'end' than to fall off like that.
-I never quite got what the holoprogram taught Riker. I thought that was poorly done, though it was a novel idea to use the TNG crew. I don't think that was the best episode to use the ENT finale for. In fact, I wouldn't have used it for ENT's finale. A sweeps show, yeah, but I don't think it was fair to to the ENT crew to have to share their spotlight with the TNG crew.

Bingo! And it didn't in any way interfere with and change (pervert) the story of the original episode like TATV did.

I'll start of by saying I'm not really an ENT fan. And as such, I really liked "These are the Voyages." But I am a huge TNG and Riker/Troi fan...and since that episode was in the TNG timeline with Riker and Troi, that expalins why I liked it.

I do think it was wrong to end the series with basically a TNG episode, though. And I'm not sure Trip should have died. If I were a hardcore ENT fan, those would be my 2 biggest problems with the episode. But personally, I loved every second of the Riker/Troi episode since TNG didn't have nearly enough for my liking.

It obviously didn't make sense to put Riker and Troi in the season 7 timeline so many years later...plus they gave Troi movie hair instead of season 7 hair.

And I too have always wanted a Titan series...or movie.

Think about it this way.
If they had done this episode just after TNG ended it might have been recieved better...but this far after it ended make it looks like grasping for straws.
