What was the genesis of ST = Gargoyles?

Just how did so many ST alumni end up doing voice-work for this series? By this I mean, what got it really rolling, after Frakes and Sirtis signed? Any inside info would be appreciated.

I just looked the show up on wikipedia (i've heard of it, but never seen it) and it definitely did have a remarkable number of Trek actors in it.

So would this be the kind of show someone like me (I'm a 20 year old guy) would enjoy?

Yes.

Many of the stories & concepts are based on several of Shakespears stories & plays. Plus, the show also deals with morality, ethics & equality. It was considered one of the most mature productions Disney has ever done.

Unfortunately Disney won't complete the release of the DVD's, so anybody wishing to watch the show now will find the story incomplete.

^Grrrr, I hate when they do that. IMO if you're going to release part of the show, then you really should release the rest of it eventually.

EDIT: I just looked on Wikipedia, and apparently there is actually a comic series written by the shows creator, Greg Weisman that picks up from the end of the second season and continues the story. It says that it apparently ignores t the final season of the show, because Weisman was not involved and it is considered non-canon.

Exactly, who's going to buy half of a completed show on DVD?

Their reasoning was season 2 vol.1 didn't sell as well as season 1 did, so they figured it was a waste to finish putting it out on DVD. However, the dumbasses never considered the price point. Season 1 was only $20 while season 2 vol.1 was about $40 because season 2 has 4x the episodes season 1 has. Plus, they did little to nothing to advertise it was on DVD. Most fans of the show were unaware of it.

Makes you wonder, who the hell is in charge of marketing over at Disney?

I think according to the producer on his AskGreg page, it was because of so many auditioned and the fact that they had Sirtis and Frakes. In fact at multiple points they were even planning on getting Patrick Stewart to do voice work such as for Goliath, Macbeth and Arthur Pendragon, but apparently he was always beyond their price range.

Damn, I hate being to poor to afford digital cable. Apparently they are currently showing Gargoyles as part of Toon Disney's late night programming block.

It was a nice little scifi/Fantasy action adventure show. Then they moved it to network tv(groan). Then it was called the Goliath Chronicles. The bad guys were always these Klu Klux Klan dudes with hammers. It sucked.

The early seasons had a great mix of magic and scifi. Then later they visited other mythology types like Odin, CuChulen and the hound of Ulster, The New Olympians, etc. I liked Oberon when he attacked Riker's building.

A number of the eps are censored, even at 3:30 and 4:30 AM, and one or two are never shown at all.

Wait till Disney wises up. Should happen about the same time as the Power Rangers Season sets and the 1966 Adam West Batman releases.

Juding by the devil smilie I'm assuming that would be a never?

Censored at 3:30 in the morning? I think perhaps that is a little to paranoid. I mean isn't not having to worry censorship the whole reason you show something like that at that time? :brickwall: :brickwall:

It mainly ends up there because the show is older, yet still has a following. An ep wherein Broadway accidentally shoots Elisa is reffed, but never shown. In one ep, Xanatos' father or father-in-law skewers Oberon with an iron hook-this is always cut out. Jetix gave a similar treatment to an ep of 'Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends', with the Spider-Friends joining forces with a Native American Nazi hunter against the Red Skull.
