What was "The Burn" and what caused it?

Was it ever confirmed that Future Guy was Archer?

Brannon Braga said it once on twitter, it was also said at one point that Future Guy was Romulan, and then STO turned him into their own original character.

He was a Krenim scientist taking revenge on the Federation for accidentally erasing his wife (and her species) from the Timeline, some of her species survived and became the Sphere Builders because of subspace technobabble protecting them from the timeline changes.

That really does sound like bad fan fiction. There's also a plot hole, because Future Guy warned Archer about the Xindi and Sphere Builders, while Future Guy in STO was working with the Sphere Builders.

But Krall didn't exist when Enterprise aired.
And the Federation didn't exist when TOS premiered. Doesn't mean they can't make Krall (or whoever they want) into Future Guy now, considering that Discovery is heading to a few hundred years after his timeframe and he may very well be responsible for the Burn we're discussing here.

Also I'm not sure that Noye from Star Trek Online was ever conclusively said to be Future Guy? I mean I know they got James Horan to voice him but still...

Also even if Brannon is correct about Archer being Future Guy, he still wouldn't be Enterprise's Archer but an alternate timeline version of him, due to the very nature of that being the only way Future Guy won't already remember foiling his own schemes.

Could you imagine that conversation with Future Guy and Archer if he was Archer......

Who would punch who first?
Archer would punch Future Guy first. Future Guy would be afraid of punching Archer because if he killed his younger self he'd cease to exist in some bizarre temporal cataclysm or something like that.

No if that were to happen a temporal warp would open and he'd be sent to New Orleans where he becomes Agent Pride.

Speaking of which they even joked about putting a quantum leap easter egg into that show.

...We never hear anybody in-universe suggest that this might be so, though.

Timo Saloniemi
What other explanation is out there for not only routinely using higher speeds again, but also for Voyager's (and concept Sovereign's) lifting nacelles?

I would love for someone to explain just how Future Guy could in fact be Archer, because that makes zero sense to me.
Since Vulcan mind melds seem to be a catch all for brainwashing in Trek, I'll assume T'Pol viciously mindwiped Archer and turned him evil and then sent him into the future as revenge for letting Trip Tucker die. Or something.

well STO main server is called holodeck so it makes sense that the entire game is one giant bad fanfic lol

The only thing about the STO-verse I like better than the shows is Romulus and the Romulan Republic. I wish that was on Picard.
