What TOS "things" would you like to see on this show?

How about not having a homosapiens only club ship?? Way to many humans wondering around in the ship. No andorians, no tellerites, no vulcans.. ( there original memebers! come on!) We have Saru and Go Go Gadget woman.. Don't have to be main crew, just fill in.. I mean Orivlle with less Monies fills in the ship with non humans. Do like babylon 5 have an Alien group that get done up and fill in the background. Come on Diversity!! :)

Have Tpol or Phlox walking around, maybe an aged Archer.
Show other Connies, Constellation with Captain Dekker would be nice
Visit Risa
Vist Tellar
Cardasians? they around?
Have michael subvert some all knowing computer?

But honestly.. chart there own course.. you don't need to drop in X to have a good series.

There are always different aliens in the mess hall scenes.

If they're bringing in Spock, either here or on Pike Trek they should bring in McCoy. Just for one episode, to do their "origin story" regarding why the Good Doctor finds Mr. Pointy so irritating (or maybe it's the opposite at first - McCoy's first remark about him in JJTrek is "I like him.").

I wouldn't mind seeing some more expansion of the "founding" Federation races we saw in TOS...the Tellerites and Andorians for example.

Unlike others (and I understand why folks might feel differently), I love seeing the TOS lore woven into DSC. I think it's an advantage that DSC has over all the 24th century shows. Those shows all had their crossover opportunities with each other's lore, characters, and general happenings. TOS never really got in on that fun. And, since TOS is my personal favorite (and had far less "air time" than most of the other iterations of Star Trek), I kind of like having the more direct tie-ins and acknowledgements.

I'm looking forward to seeing Pike and Spock. I love seeing the new version of the Enterprise. I enjoyed the MU storyline and seeing Sarek. To me, this is all just adding to the backstory and lore of my favorite iteration of Star Trek.

So...I wouldn't mind something as simple seeing food cubes, Harry Mudd and tribbles, or something as over-the-top as having Lt. James R. Kirk join the crew for a rotation. ;)

I say bring it on!

Pike's in the (more or less) traditional TOS uniform, have this be the new/next Starfleet uniform that the fleet is transistioning into.

Pike and his crew were one of the first ship's to get it, but soon it will be the standard uniform throughout the fleet.

I'd like to see that sort of general exploring of the era stuff. More Andorians and Tellarites would be excellent. I'm just not that keen on dragging characters from TOS into Disco, makes the universe feel small and recasting is always risky business.

Demerians were one of the species the ECS was trading with in the 22nd century, but ENT never showed them. Be interesting to finally have them on screen or at least get a mention.

Yeah...it's not my first choice to be sure...and it's risky. I guess I'd mean to say that I'd welcome it if it's well-done and I wouldn't be opposed to it in general. I don't feel the "small universe" effect, because I just view it as being purposeful. In other words "we're telling the story of Michael Burnaham and the USS Discovery, specifically because it is tied to characters and events related to the missions of the USS Enterprise." If that's a purposeful narrative choice, that's completely reasonable in my book. Most of the other shows went the opposite way...so I find it "fresh" to approach this series from a different angle, with a purposeful linkage to TOS.

But yes, putting some mild nods, backstory, etc that provides additional richness or context to TOS events would be welcome.

While they may kitbash parts of a "Battle of the Binary Stars" ship into the rough Kelvin shape, they won't ever feature the exact ship design. They cant use stuff from the movies.

Actually, yes they can. Now.

It's the same with the novelverse - writers used to be forbidden from mentioning anything from the Kelvin films, but that restriction has since been lifted.

That was some over-enthusiastic reporting on contract negotiations which have since stalled. The only references to the Kelvin universe in the novels has been stuff snuck in under the radar, so to speak.

They're gonna have to step it up a bit...at the current point in the novelverse, the destruction of Romulus is due soon and there's no way they can just ignore that.

STO is allowed to use the movie stuff, and they're solely licensed by CBS.

But I guess there could be a difference between a video game and TV show when it comes to rights.

Indeed there are, licencing for everything is done separately. Star Trek Online can and does use stuff from the movies and now Discovery.

They wrote themselves into something of a corner.

BillJ, definitely make sure you never watch Better Call Saul. You'd hate it. Especially if you ever saw Breaking Bad.

That's not the same thing and you know it. I watch both and love both. Better Call Saul is a spin-off. They took one character from Breaking Bad and built a show around him. STD is not a spin-off of TOS. They are completely unrelated (one might say in different universes). As it is unrelated, why to do the keep trying to name drop anything and everything from TOS? Why can't STD live on its own?

We can pretend the destruction of Romulus never happened in the prime timeline.
That would actually be the very best. Have the Kelvin timeline always have been a different timeline. Like the Mirror Universe. Nero, the Narada, Red Matter and the Jellyfish never fit into the Prime universe anyway. They have always been the future of the Kelvin-verse. Only that the Kelvin-verse npw has changed it's own past, but nobody reversed it (like they regularly do everytime the prime-verse changes it's past).

Would also fit much better with Trek's timetravel-rules. Of one universe being a single stream that can be changed, and not branches being created at time travel events.

That one is easy. Romulus destruction is not in Prime. Kelvin did not fork from Prime but from some other timeline. "Prime" Spock is just a nickname he picked up along the way. ;)

Nope. They're adding more and more characters from Breaking Bad. BCS is getting closer to the parent series with every season. Especially now with the drug war being waged between Gus and Hector coming into focus. And with Jimmy making the connections he'll have as Saul.

STD is not a spin-off of TOS

That's the heart of where we disagree. Despite the visual differences, I do think of DSC as a spin-off to TOS. The same as DS9 and VOY are spin-offs of TNG. But I think this is the main source of where we're not seeing eye-to-eye.

I'll just echo some of the sediments above and say I'd also like to see more nods to the Enterprise series and more Andorians and Tellarites. Seeing some of the other Babel delegates would be nice, like the purple girl or the little bronze dudes with the fezzes.
