What TOS "things" would you like to see on this show?

Nope. They're adding more and more characters from Breaking Bad. BCS is getting closer to the parent series with every season. Especially now with the drug war being waged between Gus and Hector coming into focus. And with Jimmy making the connections he'll have as Saul.

That's the heart of where we disagree. Despite the visual differences, I do think of DSC as a spin-off to TOS. The same as DS9 and VOY are spin-offs of TNG. But I think this is the main source of where we're not seeing eye-to-eye.

DS9 and VOY are spinoffs of TNG. They even have cross-overs/cameos (TNG-->DS9 (Picard, Worf, Chief O'Brian, Thomas Riker), DS9-->TNG (Worf in First contact), TNG--> VOY (Barcalay), VOY-->TNG (Admiral Janeway). And that's just the characters. They share the same universe, same time frame, same ships, same species (a Klingon on TNG is same klingon on DS9). A Klingon D7 in DS9 is same D7 in Voyager (even in Delta quadrant)
How is STD a spin-off of TOS? Or any other Trek show or movie for that matter? What is their common element/character they spun-off from TOS?
Star Trek: Short Treks IS a spin-off of STD. They are spinning off individual characters (we'll see how that one short Trek with new character fits in).
STD is NOT a spin-off of TOS, there is nothing in-common between the two.

I know you're going to disagree with me but this is my point of view: Mid-23rd Century. Essentially the same time-frame as TOS. Burnham: foster-sister of Spock. Their choice not mine. This character is a spin-off of a character from TOS. Battle of Donatu V, referenced in "The Trouble With Tribbles" directly referenced in the pilot. Harry Mudd, a recurring character on TOS is also a recurring character on DSC. Sarek, a character from TOS, is also a recurring character on DSC.

I'm not going to have this argument until 2020-whatever. This is ridiculous. We disagree. We have different opinions. Let's leave it at that. We're not changing each other's minds. It's not happening ever. You won't change my mind. I won't change yours.

I think you're a cool poster, I like you, so I don't want to have constant non-stop debating over this. It's not getting anywhere except towards a slippery-slope of who knows what.

Those are names, not characters. Mudd is not the same charcter as in TOS. Pike is not the same character as in TOS (in as much as we saw in the trailer). Enterprise is not the same ship that's in TOS. This is NOT a spin-off. It's a re-imagining/reboot, whatever you want to call it. Same thing they did in ST09, same names, different characters (including the Enterprise). No one is claiming ST09 is a spin-off, because we know it's a reboot (it's part of the plot). What STD is missing so far, is stating in canon that it's a reboot. They sooner they state it, the sooner everyone else will be better off.

Oh I don't know. People can change their mind. 2020 is only couple years away. I have been here since 2001. I got time :)

Non-stop debate is what this board is about. Embrace it. That Enterprise on Discovery thread is almost 400 pages by now. Not A SINGLE poster has changed anyone's mind in that thread :D

We will be arguing this stuff until the end of time.

"But what of Lazarus?"

Fighting forever... or until they starve to death. Unless being trapped between dimensions cures hunger. And the need to for sleep or using the bathroom. No other stimulation. No other anything else.

Wow. Glad I'm not Lazarus! O_O

How we think these debates look in our heads:

How I can't help thinking they probably really look (yes, this is one of the other things I do):

Because I don't think the show is very good, and don't need to be reminded of it every third page of a novel that has nothing to do with it.
Well it's part of the timeline now so it will be referenced whether you want it to be or not.

As I said in the Litverse subforum, the same thing happened around the same time Enterprise started.

Unlike others (and I understand why folks might feel differently), I love seeing the TOS lore woven into DSC. I think it's an advantage that DSC has over all the 24th century shows. Those shows all had their crossover opportunities with each other's lore, characters, and general happenings. TOS never really got in on that fun. And, since TOS is my personal favorite (and had far less "air time" than most of the other iterations of Star Trek), I kind of like having the more direct tie-ins and acknowledgements.

I'm looking forward to seeing Pike and Spock. I love seeing the new version of the Enterprise. I enjoyed the MU storyline and seeing Sarek. To me, this is all just adding to the backstory and lore of my favorite iteration of Star Trek.

So...I wouldn't mind something as simple seeing food cubes, Harry Mudd and tribbles, or something as over-the-top as having Lt. James R. Kirk join the crew for a rotation. ;)

I say bring it on!

I'm also digging the gratuitous TOS references and I'd love more of them, pretty much for the same reason. Would like a sequel to be a bit more direct than some aside references in passing. Mudd especially has been fun to watch.

I'm okay with showing alien species from TOS but nothing beyond that really.
Feel like Discovery needs to find it's own style.
That's kinda the whole point of the show.
Using TOS as their foundation means to me, that there are going to be massive amounts of references to that future (for the show) era.
