What to do with collection of VHS Trek tapes??

"Developing countries"

5 dollars for an internet ready (probably stolen) burner phone, from most any flea market in the world.

Or deal with 20 year old players, and ragged tapes that have been rerecorded over and again a hundred times?

Does anybody have a suggestion about what to do with a collection of Star Trek VHS tapes recorded off live TV over many years? I'm cleaning house and have a collection of just about every episode of TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise, taped with contemporary commercials. (Yes, I also have an index.) Some of the older tapes (from late 80s) are in pretty bad shape, but it's an interesting time machine to go back and watch the commercials as well as the episodes as they appeared in first run or syndication. I'm going to throw them out, but if anyone has any use for them, I'm happy to give them away. They represent a lot of hours of work and I've watched them all over the years (great for treadmill time). I'm sure I'm not the only person with relics like this.

Meanwhile, I'm glad to find this forum and will look forward to being a contributor.

Cheers!
I used to record whole shows on tape. I gave them away, but it didn't seem they were really appreciated. The real value may be, if you can go analog to digital with the commercials. Some people Really love commercials and seek them diligently. And they don't get put in syndication like a well known TV program would. Toy, Soda, cereal, gum and movie ads are highly sought after.

Then there is the value, if any. I recorded off live TV too. Betamax was high quality, but still only as good as the reception. Ditched all those tapes years ago. I have the TNG DVDs.

Recording ads is lazy.

I also paused the record for all of the Star Trek credits.

It's also non-economic.

4 episodes and a sitcom, vs. two an 9/10ths of an episode you'll never see the last 5 minutes of.

When I wasn't home for reasons, and used the timer, I had a second vcr to edit out the ads.

A minor dip in picture quality, but no Ronald MacDonald shilling burgers either.

I would FF though ads. I used the timer to record and owned only one VCR. Lucky to have that one. After all Saturday was gaming night.
