Is that a thing?Accusations have been made that people who like Shaw but not, say, Raffi, are racist/sexist/homophobic. Maybe some are, I don't know, nor do I particularly care.

Yes.Is that a thing?
Raffi and Picard were good too. But, her and Worf were a huge highlight of Season 3.She and Worf were great together.
A likable, fun, charismatic, dick. But not annoying, unlike some other characters.Accusations have been made that people who like Shaw but not, say, Raffi, are racist/sexist/homophobic. Maybe some are, I don't know, nor do I particularly care.
The reason I prefer Shaw to Raffi is simple: Shaw is FUNNY. Raffi rarely was.
I'm not disputing that Shaw is a dick. Of course he is. But even if he is one, he's still funny. That's why most people like him more.

Shaw fits in so poorly. Wesley is welcome in comparison.
I didn't like Raffi's character is season 1, but I do have a friend who's both struggled with addiction and is really into conspiracy theories, and Hurd captured that really well.I like Raffi too. Even back in Season 1. She reminds me of some people I know (personality-wise I mean, not the drug experience) and she feels "real" for lack of a better term.
Why? If William Riker can be "Will" and Leonard McCoy "Bones", why can't Jean-Luc be called "JL"? What is "NuTrek" about a diminutive or a nickname?JL is nails on a chalkboard... immediately knocks out of the narrative... We may have Patrick Stewart back but this is NuTrek!
Should have just been first name basis.
Nah, you're wrong.JL is nails on a chalkboard... immediately knocks out of the narrative... We may have Patrick Stewart back but this is NuTrek!

but this is NuTrek!
Sense...this makes none.JL is nails on a chalkboard... immediately knocks out of the narrative... We may have Patrick Stewart back but this is NuTrek!
Should have just been first name basis.
