What the frell happened?

The one time I thought Raffi was funny was when she and Seven were constantly bickering as they drove around 21st-century L.A.

That's the only time I ever sensed any chemistry from them as a couple. Most of the time Raffi seemed more Worf's type. She and Worf were great together.

Accusations have been made that people who like Shaw but not, say, Raffi, are racist/sexist/homophobic. Maybe some are, I don't know, nor do I particularly care.

The reason I prefer Shaw to Raffi is simple: Shaw is FUNNY. Raffi rarely was.

I'm not disputing that Shaw is a dick. Of course he is. But even if he is one, he's still funny. That's why most people like him more.
A likable, fun, charismatic, dick. But not annoying, unlike some other characters.

Hell, go back to Wesley Crusher. There's an annoying character where gender / race accusations can't be thrown out. Imagine he was the main character of TNG! If anything, people walk on eggshells and pull their punches over some NuTrek characters because of the race / gender cards being played.

Shaw fits in so poorly. Wesley is welcome in comparison.

Shaw is what happens when the "average" guy is put in a Starfleet uniform and given command of a starship.

He was the best of what was left after the Dominion took out a good deal of the Officer Corps. :shifty:

I like Shaw. He was Captain Asshole for most of it, and that was a TOS Movie thing. If PIC Season 3 was going to be "TNG as a TOS Movie", they had to have a character like that. Shaw fared a LOT better than Esteban and Styles. Todd Stashwick really nailed it. And none of that has anything to do with 12 Monkeys, although 12M does add to my liking the character even more than I already did.

I like Raffi too. Even back in Season 1. She reminds me of some people I know (personality-wise I mean, not the drug experience) and she feels "real" for lack of a better term. She also has the Starfleet Intelligence background, which made that experience relevant to Season 3, where they went all-in on Starfleet.

I like the character of Wesley Crusher... but Wil Wheaton can't act anymore. In his one scene at the end of Season 2 where he says, "I'm Wesley Crusher," I wanted to say, "No you're not. You're Wil Wheaton from The Ready Room making a guest appearance."

I didn't like Raffi's character is season 1, but I do have a friend who's both struggled with addiction and is really into conspiracy theories, and Hurd captured that really well.

I hated Raffi so much I was hoping she would die in a TMP style Transporter accident after being shot by a Varon T Disruptor.

JL!
Woe is me!
I'm such a smack head!

::shudders::

I just did a Google search and it looks like Lowes and Home Depot have some pretty good deals on some graffiti removers. You just never know when someone's going to spray paint something on the walls or on the picket fence.

JL is nails on a chalkboard... immediately knocks out of the narrative... We may have Patrick Stewart back but this is NuTrek!

Should have just been first name basis.

Sense...this makes none.

I have several nicknames for coworkers around the office, including one I just call "Red." It's a bad habit I picked up from assistant coaching in college.

There are nicknames around in Star Trek so this is not some new thing at all. This is disagreeing with an artistic choice then blaming it on "nuTrek" as though it hasn't happened before.

News flash: it has.

"What the Frell happened?", the original thread title says? Picard isn't so much three seasons as it is three series. I like them all for different reasons, but this is the way it broke down.

Season 1: "This is NOT a TNG Reunion!"
Season 3: "Yes it is!"
Season 2: "I'm just going to hang out in 2024 while you two fight it out."

Putting that aside, though, from now on I'll never watch the TNG Movies without going straight to Picard Season 3 afterwards. It now actually feels like a complete film series, even though it had to finish off on Streaming TV. I can watch them together as one thing. Whereas before, I'd only watch the TNG Movies if I was already watching all the TOS Movies again, which I've always done from time-to-time, and wanted to keep going.
