What the devil?!

I think it's interesting how imagery pops up again and again throughout the world. Figures in cloaks or with sharp teeth or glowing eyes or jolly bellies - is that Buddha or Santa. Certain images strike a nerve. The skinless man shows up in Hellraiser and Power Rangers. So, when I came across this absent-mindedly tumblring or tumbling or whatever it is, I wondered about Trek alien make-ups. Vulcans were inspired by devils but I wonder also how much by Tolkein's elves - especially in aspects of their culture.

I think you're confusing the fact that there are only a limited variants of human shapes from average - tall, short, fat, thin and combinations thereof - with themes. Similary there are only so many ways a human form can be adapted to look supernatural, so ideas will be revisited in different times and different places.

Oh I think there are many ways to play with the human body than we ever get to see. But I think it's interesting also when ideas reappear. Pointed ears are common enough, even lizard men like the Gorn, but Aenar?! That just made me take pause. It's like if some little kid posted their own independently imagined version of a Ferengi or Mizarian or something.
