What Star Trek episodes or films have you been watching lately?

DS9's Duet

Acting in the beginning was bad.
Overall the episode was mediocre (IMO).
This is the episode that blew me away and made me fall in love with DS9, and, by extension, Trek.

Every time I read how people love Duet I get confused.. I always think they are talking about The Muse. Then I look it up. Then I remember.. yes Duet is a wonderful episode and really showcases DS9 for the layered and political show it is.

DE:

Well, I will admit. Duet has an amazing performance by Harris Yulin (Cardassian Aamin Marritza). And I see what the episode was trying to do. But I was partially distracted by the DS9 cast's wooden acting within this episode. Also, the hateful Bajoran guy was a horrible, too.

I mean, it isn't a bad episode. It was just okay. But it is interesting how we all have different tastes and opinions on Trek episodes.

Unfortunately, I can't remember which episode got me hooked into Deep Space Nine and or Star Trek.

Planning to watch ST:V next.

How masochistic of you. Best of luck with that!

Why thank you. I loved that film, camp romp with some great music. Just bought the soundtrack recently, it concludes with Uhura's fab fan dance song!! Awesomeness!! (not that she sang it.. it was done by a pop group called Hiroshima).

Oh and here's a tidbit for you.. not of the fan dance but of another musical classic from ST:V.

That scene is one of the only bearable parts of ST:V, IMO. Yet is the movie which started my journey into Trek and TPTB. If my ex had never dragged me to that convention... if George Takei had not asked me all those questions... then I would never have had one of my greatest life adventures!

My Trek viewing has been greatly reduced due to real life, the NBA finals, NASCAR and FIFA 2010. Now that I have all 3 seasons of TOS-R, I have been rewatching them all from the beginning. (I cheated and watched some of my favorites first... Amok Time; Journey to Babel; Mirror, Mirror; etc.)

I think Shadows and Symbols is my favorite ep.

I hadn't seen ST:V in at least 15 years, it was the second last movie I had to buy. I knew it was supposed to be crap. I didn't remember any of it (which in itself was VERY cool, it was like NEW Trek!) I fell off the couch laughing at McCoy's line that he liked Spock better when he was dead. I just enjoyed the whole damn thing so much! Maybe when I rewatch it I will see what the hatred is all about.

I am really sorry to hear about all those sport things, I hope you recover. Enjoy your TOS-R, I certainly do!

I have the DVD, but I haven't watched it since it was at the theater. Maybe I should pull it out of mothballs and give it another chance. I am just dreading the thought that god needs a starship. At least Kirk did finally ask the right question.

DS9's Explorers

Although the CGI on the solar sails was a bit cartoonish, I did enjoy the heck out of this episode. Along with some father and son bonding: Jake lets his father know about Kasidy in this episode. Also, Bashir and Leeta start to show an interest in one another, too. We also see Bashir and O'brien bonding even more here, as well. The episode was decently performed by the cast and both story lines were well executed.

Duet is actually an episode that I appreciate more now than when I originally watched it. For whatever reason it didn't really stand out to me the first time through, but it does have two excellent performances, and I appreciate its ambition.

I actually agree with Luther Sloan about the random Bajoran being quite horribly acted. He manages to stand out even though he only has about two or three lines in the episode, but that is a minor drawback. The other criticism I would make of this ep is that the scenario is highly contrived and perhaps doesn't stand up to a whole lot of scrutiny, but it doesn't really matter because the ideas and emotions are so solid. I especially appreciate the moment of sympathy when Kira realizes what is happening and Marritza's bluster starts to dissolve ("Why are you doing this?").

Finished my ENTERPRISE re-watch yesterday over lunch (TATV was EXCELLENT;)).

This morning I went ahead and started a TNG re-watch. I just finished "Farpoint".

Damn. You actually were able to re-watch "Farpoint". Geez, I admire your strength, my friend. The episode still looms over my head like a dark cloud (and I just haven't found the courage yet to get back into finishing it again).

I'm rewatching it now, and I love it as much (if not more) than I had the first time I saw it.

I think it's one of the highlights of DS9 and Trek. I just wish they had done more to diversify the Cardassians.

Duet for me was an episode that performed at 65% power. To me: It had one really great performance. It also had a descent premise, too. But the episode just didn't deliver like I would have wished.

Why? While I can understand the fans dislike of TATV (even in I don't complete agree with them, there ARE story logic issues in that case), Farpoint was a good episode. Why do fans today dislike it so much?

Also, this morning, my TNG re-watch continued with "The Naked Now" and "Code of Honor".

Just finished watching TNG's The Royale with the episode commentary provided by the Make It So Star Trek podcast (episode 42). Richard Smith and Mike Dawson were pretty entertaining with their random comments :techman:

Randy:

Farpoint is just sooooooooo slow and boring. Nothing really seems to happen that makes me really care about the characters or what is going on. Especially the old playing card looking version of Q, too. I mean, he is supposed to be a threat. But you never get the impression that he is one. He is just one big goof ball. Plus, there's the whole campiness of it all, as well.
