I don't often revisit the movies, but last night I pulled out Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. As frustrating as ever; I can see a good movie in there being smothered by embarrassing "humor" and feeble effects.

Still trudging through TNG Season 2, latest installment: Manhunt - urgh, I hate Star Trek!

OK, maybe that's taking things a bit far, but apart from Q-Who, this season has been mostly terrible since Contagion. Oh well, I guess I'll have to hold my nose and plough onwards to the sunlit uplands of Season 3.

I recently watched season 1 of TOS and about my 20th viewing of the new movie.

TNG Sins of the Father. Great episode that fleshed out the Klingon society, showed their society in a more realistic light - politics take precedence over 'honor', and politicians use 'honor' as a catchphrase, introduced Kurn, Duras and K'mpec, and started the arc about Worf and his involvement with the power struggles in the Empire, which would continue throughout TNG and late DS9. It's great that the episode doesn't have a 'happy ending'. This was one of the earliest Ron Moore scripts for Trek, and unlike "The Bonding" you can really feel it's a Moore script.

And how awesome is Kahlest - refusing the chancellor of the Empire: "You're still fat, K'mpec"!

I didn't have time for my usual three or four TNG episodes this morning, but I didn't see Clues (one of my favorites), and First Contact (the episode, not the movie).

TNG's "Cost of Living" on BBC America the night before last. I don't get the hate for this one. Maybe not a great episode but it made me chuckle more than once.

TOS Season 1 Disc 1 (original effects) last night, watched "The Man Trap" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before". I love TOS but these early episodes were rough. Why is everyone so hell-bent on killing the salt fluke instead of, maybe, you know, feeding it? Where does Delta Vega come from and how do they know about it?

Tried to watch a local station's broadcast of TOS-R's "The Menagerie, Part I" but got annoyed at the 'death by a thousand cuts' snipping of dialog for more commercial time, and gave up halfway in.

Watched The Undiscovered Country and Generations recently and watched ST:XI tonight. Couldn't find Insurrection which was my next on the list having watched FC about a month ago.

yesterday - TNG 'Sarek' on SciFi Channel. Just in time to disprove allegations on another thread that the idea of Vulcans having stronger emotions than Humans was introduced in ENT. In fact, it was spelled out, in those words, in this episode (though one may argue it was already implied in TOS). Anyway, I've always liked this episode. Patrick Stewart got some great material in the moving post-meld scene, showing Picard overwhelmed with Sarek's intense emotions and talking about his love for his wives, his son Spock (I guess he didn't really care about Sybok )

TNG The Emissary: Ah, that's better! I don't think I've seen this one before - K'Ehleyr was a cool character and I liked her relationship with Worf. Weirdly for 2nd generation Trek I actually noticed the music, as well, which was quite nice.

Apparently Klingons have a thing about hands...

Oh, but having to travel through space in that tiny coffin-like probe? Jesus, that really makes my skin crawl!

I'm watching TOS' "Plato's Stepchildren" (very embarrassing) because a few days ago I saw Liam Sullivan (Parmen) in an episode of the 1960s version of Dragnet as a Timothy Leary-type drug guru.

I am taking my first break in regular watching in about 15 years. I used to watch about 2-3 eps per week, generally while working out in the mornings. About 6 months ago, after watching all the movies, DS9, ENT, and the animated shows straight through I just reached my saturation point. I have barely watched any in half a year, and will stay away for probably another 6 months at least.

This happened to me once with Star Wars (which is, admittedly, a differrent kind of show with a different kind of fandom). After a few years or so my interest resurfaced and I got into the books and the Clone Wars series. I am sure my desire to watch the show again on a regular basis will return.

Just started season 5 of TNG. Watched all of the first disk Sunday morning. The next episode tommorrow is Disaster, one of my favorites.
