What SciFi or Fanasty Series, Film or Franchise can you not stomach?

Re: What SciFi or Fanasty Series, Film or Franchise can you not stomac

I can not understand all appeal to Stargate franchise. Everything about those series suck big time

Smallville....stupid teenage soap opera it turned out to be not real story of Superman

Star Trek Enterprise , a vain attempt to extend a franchise beyond its limits

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel....after a few season both of them turned to teenage fun romps

Lost....Can they ever make sense of everything unexplined at the end ?

Harry Potter is vastly overrated....

Andromeda....awful execution

Farscape (but only any episode after Noranti showed up, those all sucked)
nuBSG after season 1
Charmed
Harry Potter
The Matrix (the last 2 movies were actually okay, but the entire universe was built on a premise that just didn't hold up for me)

That's all I can think of at the moment.

While the timing of this post may seem suspicious to some, to TerriO in particular, I really could never like either Hercules or Xena. While I'm glad they helped launch other careers, and that's always a good thing, the shows themselves wee far too campy for my taste. As much as I enjoy that style of entertainment, it can get overwhelming for me. There were some positive aspects to each, but given a choice, these two shows are far, far, FAR down my list of what I'd choose to watch.

Another vote for Dune.

Anything written by the so-called "big guns" of 20th century science fiction (Azimov, Bradbury, Heinlein, et al). They're so snobby and pretentious in attitude ...

Funny. I only really liked Xena when it was being campy & funny & didn't take itself too seriously. The episodes where it did take itself seriously (like pretty much anything dealing with Xena's backstory) where where I lost interest.

Anything from post Season 5 of the X-Files I would have to say, likewise for post Season 2 of Andromeda and Earth: Final Conflict beyond the first season. I don't actively dislike a lot of programs that I just don't watch, but shows that started out good and then fell apart make me feel more emotional I guess.

Now had I seen some of the other variety, I might have ended up in your camp. For me though, it seemed every time I did see an episode, it was of the campy variety. Obviously, that isn't exactly a fair sampling.. but then nothing ever grabbed me enough to where I was interested in watching more of it.

No, I don't think seeing the serious episodes would have changed your mind on the shows. There are some very good episodes on both shows that completely avoid the camp and focus on some pretty deep issues that I think you would enjoy, but the main appeal of the shows is the camp value. The self-imposed cheesiness is what sets Hercules and Xena apart from other sci-fi/fantasy shows. Without it, I don't know if the shows would even be worth watching.
