What Relaxes You?

Running relaxes me more than anything. Nothing like getting those endorphins to the brain - sure to improve any day, no matter now stressful. Plus, running makes me feel in control and strong...which is a good way to feel when you are facing a lot of stresses that, in reality, you have very little control over. It also helps with anger management - if I am pissed off and on the verge of saying something to someone I might regret, better to go out and pound out a few miles - preferably to some music that also helps to release those sorts of feelings. Most of the time, that does the trick. I try to run between 3 and 7 miles every other day and that seems to help with stress and my physiological tendency toward depression.

I also believe that laughing helps one to relax. If nothing else, I can flip on a rerun of Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert - either one will work for a quick fix.

I also do graphic art. When I play around in Photoshop, I forget everything else and focus on whatever project I'm working on. That really helps.

I also agree about a hot shower - particularly after running! The combination of those two things is fabulous.

This may be cliche, but regae music in particular or Native American flute with drums, bluegrass and the Gratefull Dead. I don't know what kind of person you are, but I would sugest marijuanna, if your not down with that , then beer.

^ LOL. Yeah I wouldn't call sports something that is relaxing for me. I'm passionate about sports but it's not something that I watch or listen to in a relaxed state.

A million dollars would relax me nicely.

On a more serious note, I don't seem to ever relax properly. I'm always vigilant, waiting. I'm not sure why.

Well, I mediate a lot. Its ironic really, until a few years ago i always claimed it to be a myth. that it doesn't have any effect at all. but then a my knee was messed up and a friend of mine forced me to try it out for real. real, as in not giving up after half an hour, but trying for hours.

now, i do it every day. i was even able to pass SAF Medical because i could block out the pain.

How about reading something that you know would bore the hell out of you? That doesn't always work for me, but it does more often than not.

^Yes, you'll have trouble meditating in the field, at least at first. But you'll need it even more there, so you'll keep working at it and probably do fine.

I used to relax with alcohol, then it was cigars, then it was my shiisha pipe. Not very conducive to a healthy lifestyle. I have consciously forced myself to form new habits over time, which have actually worked much better!

Prayer - handing my woes over to god
Any of my unread books
A brisk walk - enough to make me perspire a little
Extensive grooming
Baking
Bath, followed by slipping into crisp clean bedsheets, taking a piping hot large cup of tea and a laptop along with me, staying put for whatever time necessary.
Laying in bed flat on my back, releasing/relaxing every muscle in my body one by one - takes time and concentration, but will get you as relaxed as any pharmaceutical. :D
On a desperate day, I might go through all of those.

Mine is crytic crosswords ~ then again they can come back to haunt you at 4.30am when you suddenly wake up and say "Oh it's 'inopportune' ~ 'run into pope' ... it's an anagram ~ thankfully I have pen and paper at my bedside table.
I'm so sad :weep:

That's not sad; it's a sign of an active intellect. :techman:

I've always been hopeless as crosswords, sadly, cryptic or otherwise...

Thank you :)
I just love words.
It has become a contest with Man though, who can get 1 down first ~ not very Klingon :klingon:

I lay the guitar. I'm no virtuoso but a few bends/hammer ons/pull offs do the trick for me.
:)

I don't want to take the 'p' but hopefully you forgot it. ;)
:)

Obviously that was a keyboard malfunction!
;)

Well you can't be perfect at both ;)
