Running relaxes me more than anything. Nothing like getting those endorphins to the brain - sure to improve any day, no matter now stressful. Plus, running makes me feel in control and strong...which is a good way to feel when you are facing a lot of stresses that, in reality, you have very little control over. It also helps with anger management - if I am pissed off and on the verge of saying something to someone I might regret, better to go out and pound out a few miles - preferably to some music that also helps to release those sorts of feelings. Most of the time, that does the trick. I try to run between 3 and 7 miles every other day and that seems to help with stress and my physiological tendency toward depression.
I also believe that laughing helps one to relax. If nothing else, I can flip on a rerun of Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert - either one will work for a quick fix.
I also do graphic art. When I play around in Photoshop, I forget everything else and focus on whatever project I'm working on. That really helps.
I also agree about a hot shower - particularly after running! The combination of those two things is fabulous.
