There was another show I watched in the last couple years that also did that, but I can't remember what.
Yes, this is my absolute must pick!
I don't even want an explanation. I want it 100% canon and storywise in line with the rest of the show. Just... LOOKING different.
(They could connect it to one of the TOS episodes the way "Trouble with Tribbles" did, and visit the same place/alien or something).
For a "What If"-episode I always wanted a gender-bended version of the heroes - Cpt. Christine Pike, Juan Chin Reily, Eric Ortegaz, Chris Chapel etc.... But I'm pretty sure the logistics (and casting so many new actors) will make that almost impossible.
But I'd love it!
Would also be cool if the SNW equivalent were, say, the same actors playing present day astronauts, on a Space Shuttle-like mission or something.
Actually after "These old scientists" probably not necessary anymore - we now saw how the main cast looks like as cartoons. No need anymore for a full episode.
Also: Paramount give us more than 10 episodes per season! Please?
I might be misremembering, but I think Eureka also did something of that nature.
I had a related idea back when Enterprise was on to do an entire episode set on a Romulan ship with the crew being played by the the Enterprise cast.
A Mirror Universe episode which sees the return of Prime Lorca.
Use the existing cast. Romijn as Pike. Mount as Una. Navia as Spock...
I would watch the shit out of this.

Regeneration ii, Sam finds that pair of borg drones archer blew out an airlock 100 years ago. It should intentionally have the vibe of a cheap horror movie sequel.

(Also ENT's regeneration is an underrated borg episode as it took them back to threat they were in TNG for at least one episode...)

That gave me an idea. Have them do a story where there was a time where Pelia and Guinan hung out in New Orleans in the 1920s, where they befriended someone with the name Sisko...
Pelia telling a story of the romulan war , which led her to stay away from starships for a 100 years.
Maybe her meeting TPol on Vulcan and reminicing .. And showing trip alive..
