That sounds an awful lot like "A Piece of the Action." I could go for some alien race that creates a reality on their planet based on what someone is thinking or maybe wishes their reality was. Wouldn't be implausible that Pike wishes he lived in that time. Haven't thought about it any deeper than that, though but it could end up being a good character piece about Pike.

Got it. In that case, don't give the writers any ideas.

During a layover on Earth, Pike takes the crew horseback riding and camping. They gather around a camp fire and tell stories.

Maybe Spock tries out his jet boots for the first time and they roast marshmelons.

I think something approaching fourth wall breaking could be interesting. It hasn't really happened yet. (Not leaning on it, which arguably has happened, I'm talking outright reaching through the screen and grabbing you.)

There's also "Visit to a Weird Planet" and "Visit to a Weird Planet Revisited", either or both of which might be used as source material.

To maintain canon, he could be off doing something else at the time - maybe in the jail of the Western town, or seeing a pon farr specialist over concerns that he hasn't experienced it yet.

A sitcom episode where the crew is haunted by a disembodied laugh track of alien observers. Someone breaks the fourth wall when a crewmember joins in, by saying, "That wasn't even funny. Why are you laughing?" "I don't know. They laughed."

Seeing Zachary Quinto and Ethan Peck on stage together at STLV has me thinking of a Kelvin Timeline crossover episode.

I also heard the idea of Quinto playing Sybok in SNW, which would be pretty cool.

Fans really shouldn't write for TV shows.

If someone had proposed that Christine Chapel (it sounds like she exists to get married, doesn't it?) would become the breakout character, sing a song about her future success, break Spock's heart, and be fighting Klingons i would have laughed it off. But not only did they try - they did it, and quite well.

At some point I want Pike to directly talk into the camera to the audience.

Bonus points if it isn't for comedic effect, but dead serious a la House of Cards.

But only for one episode, then never again.

So, I’m not really crying out for “special episodes”, especially in such short seasons. S2 suffered from too many of them and had a lack of focus and drive. I’d say stick to one comedy episode per season and, if they really cannot help themselves, one “special/a.k.a gimmick episode”—but no absolutely more. I’d like to see a tighter, slicker third season with some genuine narrative direction/thrust (“will they/won’t they” relationship stuff does not count in my book; what we’ve been given is 90120 fluff).

Maybe not a full episode but perhaps a "Short Trek" with them in full on TAS animation. Playing it completely straight, just animated.

Tom Selleck used to break the 4th wall as Magnum periodically during that show, usually with just a disbelieving or exasperated look. Of course, he was always narrating to the audience in the background as well, almost as if reading from his own memoirs or something. It was always quirky, but then that show had a lot of quirky stuff that just worked.

Getting back to an April flashback. Maybe one featuring April's last mission as commander of the Enterprise. Pike there as an XO ready to step up. Number One at navigation. Also a chance to use the legacy character people keep clamoring for. Doctor Boyce, Jose Tyler and uh Glasses Tech and Flattop Chief.
