What makes a great final season of a show?

What are the kind of things you want to see once you enter the bittersweet final season of one of your favorite shows? And I'm not just talking about the series finale but everything leading up to it.

That it continues the storylines of the past and builds to the future and to the conclusion. If it seems like they just got picked up without any plan and pull a story out of their asses, like Rosanne, then that's no good.

All the story and character arcs are wrapped up nicely without seeming like they're just working through a checklist.

- Any ongoing story arcs should reach a natural, organic and satisfying conclusion by the final episode
- I like when a show draws parallels to the beginning of the show, indicating that the series and/or its characters have come full circle
- Use recurring characters where it seems appropriate, but don't force it if it doesn't make sense
- Make sure the final episode is mapped out in advance so that you can properly build up to it without having to rush an ending at the last minute
- Don't make any dramatic cast changes if it isn't necessary
