What is your opinion of season 3 as a whole?

It was a show that mimicked the story formulas of the original, but the writing lacked any fire or real wit. A mid sitcom at best, not even on a par with Just Shoot Me.

It wasnt as good as the original to be sure but it was great seeing Fraiser again. Still out there being Fraiser. It just needed more time to find itself. Bringing Roz back was nice.

The 10 episide limit is getting tiring. Its shows writers can't handle even a 20 ep. season. SNW had 10 episodes and they needed trelane and the metrons. They really couldn't come up with 10 fresh unique episodes? I was half expecting the writers to have the Enterprise meet the Doomsday Machine or its little brother. Lol.
Unless you want to go back to lower budgets and less quality episodes, we're probably staying at or around 10 episodes a season.

The show at 10 eps is no better quality than we got in the Berman era. Actually season 3s effects left much to be desired. The effects in shoes like ds9 and VOY looked far better.

Not sure what you mean by "quality", but there's no reason why lengthier seasons would result in lower quality writing (especially if freelancers and such were contributing), and ten episode seasons definitely haven't boosted writing quality in any way.

Sorry, I cut out some of my comment. I meant sets and VFX and such. Not overall show or writing "quality."

Vehemently disagree. Some sets and occasional VFX look okay by today's standards, but I think this is largely nostalgia talking.

If SNW had next level FX like (for example) Foundation or even Andor then sure. Or for that matter the JJ movies. (I HATE that ship but I can't argue that it doesn't look real. And yes, I know that those movies were AAA ILM FX.) But the space FX from TNG forward were much more sure footed. It wouldn't be hard for them to be better than those. But they're not.

They have such a love affair with TWOK. Make it look like TWOK. That's pretty cheap these days.

Not nostalgia at all. The effects were better and more realistic even the later effects that used cgi. SNWs effects look like they were done on a computer. Looks really cheap to me.

I'm not saying all the Berman-era effects were dogwater, and I'm not saying that all SNW effects are flawless. And when you compare effects in those older shows to contemporary shows of the time, they may hold up. And when you compare effects in SNW to current shows, they may not hold up as well. I don't know, but we can at least have a conversation on that. But on an overall level, if you are trying to tell me that those shows are better effects wise, I don't see it. And if I have to see another obvious set dressed up like a cave from the 90s, I think I'm going to scream.

I dunno. I guess I just don't see where the FX overall are absolutely terrible. In any event, they are clearly going for better FX than TWOK, so whether or not they're failing it still has to be costing much more than what was being done decades ago.

They're obviously very good and relatively expensive FX. It's just the style that they've gone for is very cartoon-y. IM(not really very)HO.

It's like the roller coaster turbolifts from Disco. Hard to do? Yes. Good. No.

Same here. I don't have the jewelers eye for VFX as others do here so calling things cheap or unrealistic gets lost on me. It's an impossible spaceship; of course it's going to have done unrealistic aspects.
