My Hubby's younger cousin married a guy named Rene--but it's pronounced "ree-nee." Seems odd to me. Like his parents didn't know the correct pronunciation.

"René" is a common male name in my country of origin (the Philippines). From what I've heard, this is also the case in France, Spain, and Latin American countries, as in René Auberjonois, René Angelil, etc. The female version of my name in the U.S. is usually spelled "Reneé" with an extra "e," but people automatically make the assumption that I'm a Ms or Mrs.
