What is wrong with kids these days?

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

Attributed to Socrates in Plato's Republic.

*sings*

Why can't they be like we werrrrre,
Per-fect in every waaaaaay,
What's the matter with kids todaaaay?

Seriously though, from the article it sounds like everyone on the bus was terrified of him.

"
When officer's (nice grammar, CBS11TV) questioned the remaining students on the bus, they refused to give any information."

I hope he gets serious psychiatric treatment, but we know that won't happen- he'll get tossed in juvie, released to reoffend, then put in the pen when he hits 18. Then he will be in and out for the rest of his life and you and I will be paying the bill for that. Yep, it is depressing.

Exactly, and sadly he'll probably end up kiling some people before they finally throw the key away.

I think it's cause of Robert Maxwell's Bouncy Tit's Avatar...

...wellll...

... it probably isn't really to blame, but I like reposting it whenever I can...

Noisy, crazy, dirty, lazy, loafers!
While we're on the subject:

Kids!
You can talk and talk till your face is blue!

Kids!
But they still just do what they want to do!

Why can't they be like we were,
Perfect in every way?

What's the matter with kids today?

Kids!
I've tried to raise him the best I could

Kids! Kids!
Laughing, singing, dancing, grinning, morons!
And while we're on the subject!

Kids!
They are just impossible to control!

Kids!
With their awful clothes and their rock an' roll!

Why can't they dance like we did,
What's wrong with Tammy Faye?

What's the matter with kids today!

John Milton wrote part of a college thesis on how each generation is always looked at as being the "bad" one. For those of you that don't know he was around in the 1600s.

Yeah, well I bet if Milton were alive today...he'd be really fucking old.

This attack was nothing to lose your head over...like that one in Canada.

Shit, I'm avoiding all buses.

Discipline is what is wrong these days. Kids just don't get any.

When I was growing up, if my brothers or I stepped out of line, we got the belt. Now, all a kid has to do is pick up the phone and call the cops and the parent gets arrested. If the parent grounds them, they have internet and video games sitting in their room.

I can understand if a parent is beating the crap out of the kid. Otherwise, it should be allowed and maybe some of these jerkoff kids could learn to have some respect.

I don't think discipline has anything to do with physically punishing your child.

Many parents these days aren't even around, let alone disciplining their kids.

But I think most kids are good, we're just talking about percentages.

One thing that's different about today's teenagers is that they're a lot less willing to accept authority unquestionably. That's good, IMO, but it can also have side effects that manifest in different ways.

I certainly agree about the children of today, I was talking to a neighbour and he said something that stuck with me:

I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on
frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond
words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and
respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly disrespectful and impatient of restraint

It's a recurring theme. When I was a kid, my grandparents said that same shit about OUR generation.

You see, the kids, they listen to the rap music which gives them the brain damage. You see? With their Hippin' and their hoppin' and their bippin' and their boppin', so they don't know what the jazz is all about. You see, Jazz is like a Jello Pudding pop — no! Actually, it's more like Kodak film — no! Actually, jazz is like the new Coke; it'll be around forever! Heh heh heh...

Doesn't actually appear in the Republic though.

More a synthetic quote (as in it is a synthesis of various quotes from across Plato and other sources, not that it's a fake sense).

it works for some kids and others it just makes them me.
some of the most horrible kids when i was growing up were ones who the more the parents spanked them the worse they became.
it just made them angry at the world.

i always thought a good swat only at real critical times is better.

and no the parents are not in a lot of real danger of getting arrested unless there is noticable bruising.especially bruises that have lingered which ment they were pretty deep to start with.

and guess what there were bad kids out robbing, beating people when i was a kid in the 60's and i heard from my older cousins it was around in the 50's.

and kids can still be grounded.
if my friends ground their kids they take the computer out of the bedroom and they are only allowed the family computer for homework and some research.

the cell phone is only allowed when they go out.

and yeah to me the hearting part is that other kids came to the defense.
