What is wrong with kids these days?

I think you have to take into account that two kids were brave enough to go to the driver's aid and they tried to stop the assault. This shows that there are some good kids around.

The boy needs to be in juvenile detention. He is old enough to know right from wrong. Hopefully he will see the need to change his life and he will want to learn to manage his anger.

Good point about those that tried to help.

There is no excuse for his behavior -- I don't understand at all how he can pick a fight against a helpless school bus driver. Something ain't ticking right in this kids head, and it will only escalate unless he gets corrected / help.

Discipline is what is wrong these days. Kids just don't get any.

When I was growing up, if my brothers or I stepped out of line, we got the belt. Now, all a kid has to do is pick up the phone and call the cops and the parent gets arrested. If the parent grounds them, they have internet and video games sitting in their room.

I can understand if a parent is beating the crap out of the kid. Otherwise, it should be allowed and maybe some of these jerkoff kids could learn to have some respect.

Shit like this has always happened but with the 24 hour news these small stories get bigger coverage so we hear about it more often. It has nothing to do with lack of discipline or some such nonsense that is thrown out as an answer. John Milton wrote part of a college thesis on how each generation is always looked at as being the "bad" one. For those of you that don't know he was around in the 1600s.

I was never disciplined for beating up the school bus driver when I was a kid.

Exactly. It's just like how the public perception often is that crime is increasing, while more often than not the rate is going down.

Youth violence has been in decline since the early '90's. In fact, all violence in the US has been declining.

The news often reports an inverse reflection of reality--the less common something is, the more likely it is to be in the news.

Like that one episode of Becker.

Heh.

I certainly agree about the children of today, I was talking to a neighbour and he said something that stuck with me:

I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on
frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond
words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and
respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly disrespectful and impatient of restraint
