What is the chance of one last hurrah for TNG?

I did not like any of the TNG films. I wont watch any of them. I liked all the TOS films except for ST:V, but even that film was better than any of the TNG ones. I'll rewatch all the TOS movies from time to time, but never the TNG ones.

The problem is that Patrick Stewart probably would not want to do it as he has moved on in his career, which he should. Stewart (like the rest of the human race and God Himself) hated the way Nemesis came out and more or less publically stated that this was his last Star Trek film project. He moved on to X-Men.

Brent Spiner has stated that he is too old to be Data, who is an android and thus timeless and not ageless. But I think he and most of the other actors would jump on board immediately. Frakes would scream like a little school girl at the prospect of another big movie payday.

The 2009 film had a stupid storyline. Romulus gets destroyed, crazy Romulan goes back in time with planet killing machine who changed time while looking for Spock, for whom Mr. Romulan dude blamed for Romulus' destruction. Then Kirk becomes a Captain of the flagship when he is still a cadet? Honestly, this was the best storyline they could of come up with?

Nah, don't need to see it.

I was one of the few who LIKED Nemesis. I thought it was pretty good, had some holes, but brought closure to the series. I didn't care much for the entire B4 subplot and could have done without destroying Data (You can't "kill" a machine), but other than that it was alright. I rather liked the drawn out battle sequence.

I DID NOT like how TNG just HAD to be in EVERYTHING else though! The final episode of Enterprise (why not end it with Terra Prime?). The 09 movie comics (whats the point of bringing back Data, ESPECIALLY to command the E?)

I'm fine with all the books, and actually have been reading them quite a lot on my Kindle recently (bought 17 books within 4 months, a mix of old and new, not all TNG era though).

As a live action television series or motion picture? No way. But I think an animated version of The Next Generation might very well be possible. Actually I could see that being quite a hit.

I'd even settle for a remastered TNG, if they were wiling to do that. I LOVED what they did with TOS.:techman:

Unless they come up with some new technologoy (which, to be fair may happen one day) it isn't going to happen any time soon.

As has been remarked before - they produced all the special effects and edited everything on video. Even though they shot it on film - they'd have to re-edit and recreate all the special effects from scratch.

Its a much, much bigger task than TOS remastered. Unless they can come up with some sort of HD scanning technique in the future - its not going to happen.

Oh, boy, that sure made my day.:ouch:

Didn't mean to burst your bubble.

I also don't think it needs it to be honest.

:D

Yeah, that's the only way I could see it happening but even that is very unlikely.

Although if they did do an animated, direct-to-DVD thing (like those horrible DC animated movies) then the story could be set during the TV series (or the movies, I guess) and it really doesn't matter how much the actors had aged since all their voices would be relatively the same.

Nemesis was their way of killing TNG and 24th century Trek off, to focus on a differet timeline. That, in itself, is very disappointing.

I'd have loved to see a Voyager movie, but that's never going to happen :(

Especially since we learned of Janeway's promotion to Admiral in Nemesis, which albeit a brief scene was one of the high points of the movie. That was a glimpse at a VOY movie....what might have been.

24th century Trek is dead, Enterprise and Star Trek: Nemesis were the final nails in the coffin. I don't even think you'll ever get what you're looking for in the novels as The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager now look nothing like the TV shows.

Quite sadly, this is true. I haven't even bothered to read new novels, I've just read the old ones. And I'm happy with that.

Well, speaking strictly for myself, you're missing out. Yeah, the newer novels aren't like the shows, and I too, wish the people who control these things would return to more of a balance (TOS still does novels set during the original series, so why can't the others?), but the stories being presented now are just as good.

There was a discussion in the Voyager section about a season 8 of Voyager, to see them settle down in the Aplha Quadrant and tie up all the loose ends.

The fact they left it the way they did and made Janeway an Admiral in Nemesis is a cop out in my opinion.

It's sad to see the last of the TNG crew, but time has marched on. Somehow, they still seem to be vibrant in the various post-Nemesis novels.

Well, although obviously the direction of new Trek material is the rebooted TOS,
I wouldn't be surprised if twenty or thirty years later a reboot of TNG becomes a real possibility. TNG was pretty mainstream in pop culture from the late eighties to mid nineties, and with a lot of other stuff of a much inferior quality getting sequels and reboots these days, I don't see why TNG can't get one once enough time has passed.

But obviously the original TNG cast is done as far as new Trek movies except for cameo possibilities.

So no "last hurrah" in the sense this thread meant.

Have to say, a TNG remake with different actors for the cast wouldn't draw me in.

I probably would avoid it in favour of the original.

Never say never. For all the story issues I had with Star Trek 2009... Pine, Quinto and Urban really nailed the big three. And this comes from a die-hard The Original Series fan.

Interesting, I didn't see it that way. I agree Urban did a great job with McCoy, but I don't think Quinto got Spock right at all, and I thought Pine's character was more generic punk, juvenile delinquent than Captain Kirk.

But this is off topic.
