What if the new Trek XI Enterprise looked like this?

it doesn't beat the movie refit enterprise, but is miles better than the original. The only issue I see with it, is the fact it feels soooo small. Perhaps try it just slightly smaller than the refit one I think, this is probably down to panneling details and window sizes.

No one is more capable of replying to this observation than our own Tallguy --

For example, the deep grooves in the bottom of the primary hull really ruin the sense of scale for me. The edges are too neat and the effect is slightly cartoonish.

That's just me though, YMMV.

The model is really beautiful, Vector did a very impressive job.
Well, that's probably a fair criticism. The grooves on the underside need either to be reduced, or to have some additional detail (circumferential ribbing?) inside of them. I think you're right.

Also, some of the panel lining (ie, around the RCS system emplacements) seems a bit "heavy" too. Slimming down those lines would help that sense of scale, I think... say, make 'em 2/3 the thickness that they are now?

Vektor, those are amazing! I wish that your design was the one being used in the movie. I think your redesign is amazing.

Does anyone else despise the term "connie" as much as I do?

Yes! It's a stupid nickname. Of course it doesn't help that every woman named Connie I've met has been annoying.

I was really hoping that this was the sort of thing we'd end up seeing in the new movie... something that's still very recognizable as the original design, but with more detail evident that we all "just happened to miss" on 1966 320x200 broadcast signals.

Vektor-- absolutely stunning. I don't suppose I could convince you to make a hi-res (like 1680x150) desktop picture, all rendered witha planet and starfield...

Just darn Vektor! Close to Star Trek XI's version from the trailer. Congrats.

I'm not a Star Trek Fan, I'm also the President. ;)

pantpantpantpant. I'm darn, my wife isn't home what do I do!?

Vektor?

I'm of the "Don't change anything- Hold true to the original look on everything" camp.

I'd easilly accept yours.

I've had a hard time noticing the differences. At first glance it was a "So? How is this different?" type of thing.

Yeah, you've held true to the original.

This would be like keeping the original uniforms, but changing the black collar to having a straight edge on the front in place of the pointed one. Eh. Otherwise, it's the same. Or the colors on the bridge being slightly darker, or the center seat having a slightly higher back or something. I could accept that and count it as not changed.

Again, nice effort, and easilly accepted by a "rabid traditionalist". ;)

1680x150?

How do you see anything on a screen that size?!

Great concept. The use of subtle alterations over sweeping ones is the best part; it does indeed convey itself as both the original until studied, at which point the little tweaks stand out and can be appreciated. :)

lots and lot and lots of scrolling ;)

It's a beautiful and well thought-out upgrade. I love the deflector, and the coloring!

I can't think of anything to complain about ;) except for the tilted pylons. It seems to me that they are something of a weak point in the ship (always have been). As such, I think that tilting them, and therefore making them longer than they have to be, isn't the best thing from a purely technical standpoint. The TMP-ENT has this problem too. But that's just a personal thought o' mine. Not a big deal.

Actually, I could see the swept-back pylons as a plus, despite their increased length; sure, they're something of a weak point by their existence, but assuming that the nacelles generate stress in the direction of travel, having the pylons canted lessens the vector of that stress, instead of breaking it at 90°.

Hey! There is nothing wrong with being a virgin.

...

wait...do you mean sex virgin or trekker virgin?
