What if the new Trek XI Enterprise looked like this?

Wow, that's a great looking design!

Although to be honest (and I'm probably the only one who feels this way) I don't think it really goes far ENOUGH for the purposes of this movie. It still screams "1960s" to me.

I'm expecting something that retains the basic shape but looks more like what we would call futuristic today, just like TMP gave us a more 1980s-inspired ship.

Because I hate to say it, there are things designed by Apple now that look more futuristic than the original Enterprise. :D

I'm going to need an action shot of it blowing something up before I can form my final opinion.

Nice work Vektor. You are clearly talented artist.
I would love what you would come up with if you were to design re-imaged Enterprise instead basically copying the out :censored: 40 year old TOS Enterprise.
my 2 cent

Vektor magic as usual. The Trek XI design team should consider the gauntlet officially cast down.

Until now I had Dennis Bailey's Phoenix as the closest fan designed version of the TOS connie I could have pictured in Trek XI. This Veks beauty just bumped it.

Wow, that looks fantastic! If they used something like that in the movie I'd be very happy. I honestly can't see any reason for them to make any major changes to the 1960s model, the design is iconic. This just proves my point for me.

Really great work on adding some details while preserving the classic design. this is an awesome model and does justice to a modern take on the classic TOS Enterprise, without changing too much.
i really love it!

I feel the same way.

Vector's design is really, really great. But the original E never conveyed a sense of scale and grandeur like the refit did. I don't buy this ship as a 1000' long vessel.

I'd daresay that was the general idea... like David ngc said, it's like seeing the Enterprise clearly for the first time after putting one's glasses on.

I love it!

I'd love for this to be the design in the movie. It kind of has a " Hey...this is really what the Enterprise looked like all this time just your TV couldn't do it justice" kind of feel.

A few things there I don't personally care for...the addition of the "lump" reactor housing on the underside of the nacelle) but overall, I like what ya've done.

I reasoned Vector added the "lumps" as a "bridging" element, eventually leading up to the TMP refit. One can observe the slightly darker "ring" encircling the science decks, just as Probert's theatrical version did.

In some ways (not ALL ways, just SOME ways), it's like the "average" one might get if the Probert TMP refit were added to the first pilot and then divided by 2.

I particularly like the description of finally seeing the "Big 'E'" after putting on one's glasses. An amusing and apt analogy.

Sincerely,

Bill

Very nice. Redone and redetailed without gilding the lily. If the XI Enterprise looks anything like it, then I'd guess most of us will be very pleased.

Stig: The "smoothness" of the TOS Enterprise did little to convey its size. But, besides additional detailing, sense of scale can be shown on screen the same way it was with the refit Enteprise in TMP. And, it's not like the refit E screamed, "I'm 1000 feet long," standing around on its own, either.
I'm sure the Enterprise in XI, whether we end up liking the version or not, will at least be shown in a way which conveys its true size and scale.

Impulse engines: Not bad.
Lower saucer recessed windows: Too much like Voyager.
Warp nacelles: Nice detail, sans lump above struts.
Warp nacelle struts: Too tapered.

Overall, I'd say an interesting and fitting variant of the Enterprise, but not the Enterprise. It looks more like a class refit leading up to the TMP Enterprise design.

Condollezza Class Starship.

I don't think it'll look like that in the movie. Maybe the silhouette will be 75% the same, but not the rest of it.

Does anyone else despise the term "connie" as much as I do?

Only when used in reference to the Enterprise. It's fine when referring to THE Constitution.

You may well be right. From what I’ve been hearing, the design for the new movie will look a lot like the original but probably not nearly as much as mine does. I made a choice to retain as much of the character of the original as possible, though I did try to tone down most of the archetypical ‘60s elements.
