With the cliffhanger at the end of "Demons"? Would that have been a better or worse ending than "TATV"?

It surely would have been much better than "They Ass-raped The Viewership" [TM], but it would have sucked none the less.

I think they could have tweeked the Vulcan trilogy to make a good ending.

Vulcans decide that humans are ready to take their place as equals.
Trip and T'Pol marry.
Andorians grateful to the humans while the new Vulcan leadership is ready to make lasting peace with the Andorians. That could have been a nice lead into the future formation of the Federation without actually showing the creation of the Federation.

I think they should have just left it up to Coto and the Reeves-Stevens' to come up with something, they would have done a fine job.

Absolutely. Not letting Coto finish what he started was cruel (and Coto wanted a 3-hour Terra Prime story arc for the grand finale IIRC).

Leaving audiences with a WTF ending, was the strategy to get Enterprise its 4th Season, if I'm not mistaken. Throwing a Space Nazi at a still alive, somewhere in time Archer... mainly to worry CBS overlords, that this was how ENT could leave audiences hanging.

I do actually like the idea of leaving the last episode unresolved, because that's undeniable something fans of this show seem to have more than any other... imagination. Myself, I spend way too much time daydreaming about directions a 5th Season might've gone in. That in a nutshell is my problem with TATV. Finality. It's a cold splash of water that snaps you out of it. TOS didn't have that and was all the better for it. In the case of Nemesis, DS9, VOY... you also have that feeling of life goes on. To new adventures, with other days in the office yet to come... or so to speak. ENT skipped to 10 years later and decommission, with precious little to look back on and celebrate. So while in fiction, that's what the characters might've been doing in their bittersweet exchanges... reflecting on past glories, the reality was more a sense of loss for the opposite reason. Most of it was still right around the corner. They should have left it open ended, even knowing there was no chance of ever covering it.

So, no "Demons" doesn't work. It sets up Paxton's scheme to wipe out Starfleet HQ for one thing and you couldn't possibly leave it there. "Terra Prime" sort of does though and that's as good as we'll ever to a final chapter that honours the characters. What followed was clearly just so much holo dust...

Demons would've been a better ending, though I would've wanted something grander. I think the Babel storyline could've been a more fitting way to end the show.

I think the last episode should have been sort of a cliffhanger. I'm not sure what I would want the episode to be about, but have it end with reports that a series of attacks inside Federation space have been executed by the Romulans. The last line would be Archer looking at his crew saying something like, "I think it's safe to say we're going to war with the Romulans." Set up the Earth-Romulan Conflict. You never know...it might have given someone an idea.

And I agree with Peter above 100%. Berman and Braga wrote that horrible cliffhanger for Season 3, and gave the job of mopping it up (which took two episodes at the beginning of Season 4 because it was such a mess) to Manny. In the very least they should have let him have some input on the finale.

I would have liked a 20 years later sort of episode. With archer and the gang retired, perhaps a fishing trip with Shran.

That would have been fine. TATV was the WORST thing I ever saw on TV and I am still bitter and angry about it. (Yup - I need a life).

The cliff hanger story that ended with Demons would have been far better an ending. As it was it wasn't a great episode, but if they had extended that episode another 1hr, it would have been better. TATV is/was/ and always will be the WORST episode ever, and thats from someone who thinks highly of Enterprise as a series, and very low of Voyager, which I think is the worst series with some of the worst episodes. I would just assume that that epiosde never existed.

Both are bad. I would've loved something that didn't make the characters dumb.

I think they should have just left it up to Coto and the Reeves-Stevens' to come up with something, they would have done a fine job.

Coto did Storm Front I, II, Bound, Harbinger .... I think Reeves-Stevens should've had free reign with no input from Coto. (I think if there was a season 5, Coto should've have been in charge.)
