Re: What happened to "Our Star Trek Page (The 2009 Movie Was Blasphemy
And what if "that guy" is a member of Trek BBS? Right now you're not calling him a trek fan anymore than he thinks you are. You're just calling him an asshole, which is even worse.
Is it really any more mature to devote so much energy to character-assassinate someone behind their back than it is for this person to campaign against JJ Trek? Two wrongs don't make a right.
What in the world are you even talking about?
If you want to propose the idea that all fans get along, don't lower yourself below this guy's level and resort to cheap name-calling, let alone doing it behind his back. Is that line of thinking really so difficult to follow?
If you don't agree, then you're just buying into the same tribalism that this guy is pushing. It just creates "team JJ' vs. "team prime continuity" and never the twain shall meet. Might as well be Bele and Lokai locked in infinite war.
Mos is taking issue with me, BillJ.
Perhaps I was wrong to call "Jake/Fred Archer" an asshole, but he and his ilk do fit the category. And judging by other posts I've read in this thread, I'm not alone in that thinking.
However, I do not create tribalism (or "tribble-ism either

) I don't create the "team JJ vs team prime continuity" mentality. All I know is the idea that folk like "Jake/Fred Archer" and his few followers
do create that kind of tribalism. "If you like JJ Abrams' so-called 'Trek', then you cannot possibly be a fan or, or appreciate 'the Real Star Trek', and we want nothing to do with you because you are as guilty of debasing 'the Real Star Trek' as those who are involved in the pretender's production! You all promote blasphemy in the holy names of 'Star Trek' and its almighty creator, Gene Roddenberry."
That's what Jake/Fred Archer and his few fanatical lackeys try to promote.
They are the tribalists.
Mos, I have never berated someone for having an opinion. Jake/Fred Archer and his ilk are certainly welcome to their opinions, because opinions are not facts. There are many here who do not like the new Star Treks, and I'll respect their opinions on same.
But when they try to misrepresent their opinions as facts, and try to push of their dogma that JJ Abrams is the anti-Christ of Star Trek, and that only Prime Trek is the "real Star Trek", that's when any respect I might have for them goes out the nearest airlock.
And sadly, there are some folk here who are just as deluded that somehow their opinions are "immutable facts" as well, and will do their damnedest to convince everyone else that they're wrong for liking JJ Abrams' take on Star Trek....no matter that those who enjoy JJ Abrams' take have enjoyed Star Trek all their lives.
Folk like "Jake/Fred Archer" and his ilk are beyond reason. Believe me, I've met folk like him, and have tried to talk reasonably with same.... only to be viciously berated for even suggesting that somehow JJ Abrams' Star Trek is in any way connected to Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek. After a couple more attempts of trying to calm such folk down, I came to the conclusion that they
cannot be reasoned with, or be bothered to meet anyone halfway that does not fall in jack-booted lock-step with their mentality.
Welcome to yet another one of the reasons why I am no longer a fan of anything.
