What happened to HopeStation? What to do?

The site where I posted my fanfic has been down for what seems like a week now. Does anybody know what happened to it? If this is permanent, what would make a good new home for Sigils and Unions, and the other fanfic that was posted there?

It's all gone. :( Apparently, there was a pissing match between GoDaddy.com and the person running the site over bandwidth or somesuch, and GoDaddy suddenly deleted the site and its database.

Man, that sucks...so there's no way for the site owner to recover his/her stuff?

Do you have any recommendations on where we should repost our stuff? I COULD use the same gallery where my art is posted, but I'm trying not to flood it with my Star Trek stuff...

You can find it through Google's cache to some degree. There are also a number of options, though I don't think Fanfiction.net is anywhere near the top of the list. The Omega Sector BBS has a fabulous fanworks community. TrekUnited has a much quieter one. There are a ton of communities on LiveJournal dedicated to Trek fic and art.

Can't believe it's gone! As for archiving your stories you could go to somewhere like freewebs and have your own site but part of the appeal of somewhere like Hopestation was the visitor traffic and shared archive. Sad. Damn all that time formatting stories for its pages gone to pot! Yuk!

I might be talked into creating a fiction archive for Trek fanfic that runs on the same software Hope Station did. But I dunno what kind of bandwidth requirements it would have.

No kidding. I spent countless hours tweaking my stories and formatting them for that site.

I. Am. Pissed. :scream:

I also lost all the critiques and feedback on my stories posted there, which just makes it all that much worse. :(

Didn't I send you the google-cache links, Sam? For some of 'em anyway?

Yeah, but I'm having difficulty getting them to work. Probably operator error. :(

What kind of difficulty? Just hit on the cached link. Is some kind of error coming up?

Anyone actually interested in me setting up an archive? eFiction is the program used, and it's pretty straightforward... plus I have plenty of experience in building these kinds of things.

You set it up and I'll try to get the word out to a few other BBS sites.....

I may yet. I wanted to gauge some interest, since it'll be a decent sized project. I have 5GB transfer every month, I believe. Considering this is mostly a text-only venture, it shouldn't take that much, but you never know.

I know I'd definitely archive stories there if you did it but even with your experience is that not a heap of trouble to put upon yourself - you've family, prolific writing, etc, etc - you already make me feel lazy enough as is!!! :rommie:

Not very prolific writing right now; it's been torture. But I'm sure some of you folks would help me moderate it. So far, have about four or five people interested. Which is creeping up to the 'good idea' mark.
