What games are you playing currently?

Lately, I've completed a playthrough of the Resident Evil 4 remake. I've tried to get into RE 8 but just can't. I've played a bit of Civ IV (yes, IV) on the laptop. I'm debating whether to get Football Manager 26, or whether to save myself the inevitable stress and anger that goes with that series.

A two games I used to enjoy was Madden Football, and NHL Hockey ( I am Canadian, after all) ).

When I played a football game, every time I scored a touchdown/ field goal I would save the game.

It was hilarious! I would win the game with a score of
86 - 14 (Yes, I would let them keep their scores).

The hockey games were a little more balanced.

An old game I really enjoyed playing was Deus Ex. The graphics were terrible, but the choice as to which course to choose was up to the player.
It didn’t hurt that the guards in the game were very stupid.

Deus Ex is a great series... Deus Ex Human Revolution, and Mankind Divided are fantastic but that final game felt very unfinished the ending just happens. It really does feel unfinished

I haven’t played those.
Correction, I started playing revolution and somehow got distracted by another game.

Yeah, I really wanted to like Mankind Divided. I loved the setting and the ideas behind it, but it felt like it ended just as things were really starting to get going. FWIW, I feel like games should never end on a cliffhanger the way that game did. But I realize that was likely because they were told to push it out the door and had much more planned. At least the DLC set in the prison was unique and fun. But yeah, one of the few games I've ever encountered that truly felt unfinished.

One story says they just ran out of money while other stories claim the studio pulled the ending hoping to make a sequel

There's a 3rd option, which is a bit of both. I don't think they originally intended to end the game that way, which is quite a terrible way to end a game by revealing the person pulling the strings. It really felt like they'd only completed at least half of the game. Remember, they got acquired by Embracer Group around that time, and Embracer Group had a lot of trouble itself and cancelled plans for a sequel. If they truly had plans for a sequel, then I believe they would have set it up with a better ending, which is why I feel it was rushed out the door.

Oh, interesting. I didn't know about the shenanigans with Embracer.

Oh yeah, there definitely was. There's no question the studio itself was having financial trouble. It's one of the reasons why the Embracer Group bought them along a handful of other studios. At one point in time, Embracer Group was on a buying spree. Among that spree, It bought THQ along with anything under its umbrella. The problem is, they quickly became heavily scrutinized for accruing tons of debt, then came the restructuring and the sell off of debt and rushing things out the door to meet quotas.

So, no doubt the studio was wanting to make a sequel, but I doubt they had the support they needed at the time to properly line things up if things were already in trouble when they were working on Mankind Divided. I remember after the Embracer Group stories came out, the devs were wanting to make a sequel as they desperately felt they could do better for their fans and complete the story, but the the higher ups, aka Embracer Group flat out told them no. Fans were distraught, and when fans are distraught they usually try to come up with solutions of their own, such as more content for their favourite games. There was one mod that looked impressive, but it used AI to recreate the voice actor's persona for the game, and that got him quite upset and he became quite an anti-AI advocate proclaiming that under no uncertain terms is anyone to ever use his voice with AI.

Currently playing Elex. This game is a beautiful breath of fresh air, although the combat can be quite difficult, even when on easy. I had to rush through by running a lot to complete a companion mission just so that I could have a companion to help me out.
